HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support the Uniformed Services University's (USU) Department of Radiology and Radiological Science. The incumbent will support studies on characterizing the biomechanics of the brain using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Collected imaging and biomechanical measurements will be analyzed to facilitate evaluation of biomechanical differences in the brain across populations, identification of brain regions most at risk for injury, and development of computational simulations of traumatic brain injury.
The Postdoctoral Fellow is responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team. The candidate will pursue research along a focused line of inquiry and the development of new scientific approaches.

Responsibilities:- Collection and analysis of MRI data from human subjects and/or cadaver specimens.
- Analysis of data to compute mechanical motion and properties.
- Development and/or construction of biomechanical surrogate models.
- Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research and/or development.
- Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential methods and knowledge products.
- Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Education and Experience
- Doctoral degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 0-5 years experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience working with medical images required.
- Experience performing biomechanical analysis of dynamic images required.
- Experience operating an MRI scanner preferred.
- Programming experience with Python and/or Matlab.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust Clearance.
Physical Capabilities
- Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
- Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
Work Environment
- This position will take place primarily in a computer laboratory setting.
Compensation
- The annual salary range for this position is $50,100 - $75,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
