Overview
The Department of Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences at Utah State University is seeking a Post-Doctoral Researcher for our Large Animal Translational Program. The program eagerly seeks highly motivated early-career stage individuals with doctorates (Ph.D.) in Animal Molecular Genetics / Molecular Biology or related areas to join our research team.
The individual selected for this position will play a key role in groundbreaking research focusing on development of large animal genetic models and improving Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer (SCNT) efficiency. Good written and verbal communication skills are critical. The successful candidate will be a well-organized, self-motivated scientist, who works well independently and as a team member of our multidisciplinary group.
The funding for this position ends at the conclusion of the fiscal year of 2028, but may be longer contingent upon funding.
Responsibilities
* Execute and coordinate experiments and assays in a timely manner.
* Perform molecular biology protocols including: PCR, real-time qPCR, Western Blot, design and construction of genetic engineering vectors, and Immunohistochemistry assays.
* Perform in vitro studies to investigate the effects of CRISPR-based gene editing on performing precise modifications for disruption or gain of function of genes.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
* Ph.D. degree in the field of cellular, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or related areas.
* Molecular biology skills with publication records demonstrating the candidate's experience in gene transgenic and/or gene editing field.
* Experience and working knowledge with electroporation procedures, viral vector transduction, and/or nanoparticle delivery of construct vector or CRISPR/Cas9 system.
* Direct experience with cell biology techniques in laboratory (primary cell culture isolation, and in vitro manipulations of various mammalian cell lines).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Ability to communicate (oral and written) clearly and concisely.
* Effective ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary research team to guide the success of projects.
* Strong critical thinking for analysis of experimental data for troubleshooting and identification of potential levers of improvements.
