Power System Protection Engineer - Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories

As a Senior Protection/Power Systems Engineer in Engineering Services, you'll provide solutions and services that help our customers protect and control critical electrical infrastructure and power systems worldwide.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline
  
• 5+ years of experience with electrical power systems with a focus in protective relay settings
  
• Ability to work independently, accepting ownership of assigned responsibilities
  
• Willing to travel as needed
  
• Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  
• Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  
• Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  
• Negative drug test result(s)
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with electric power generation, distribution and/or transmission systems
  

• Experience creating and reviewing protective relay settings for generation facilities, distribution & transmission utilities, substations and industrial customers.
  

• Experience including, but not limited to, calculation of line, bus, transformer, generator, autotransformer, and feeder protection relay settings.
  

• Deep level of understanding of zones of protection, instrument transformers, and protective relaying schemes.
  

• Proven hands-on experience with tools like ETAP, Aspen, SKM, coupled with a strong foundation in electrical power systems.
  

• Experience with system studies such as short circuit, coordination, and arc-flash.
  

• Experience reviewing design packages including one-lines, three-lines, AC schematics, DC schematics, wiring diagrams, bill of material, SCADA points lists
  

• Demonstrated ownership of each stage of the settings creation process, calculations, and delivery of high-quality work.
  

• Experience being a part of and/or leading a project team and the ability to guide junior engineers.

Pay Range Data

Project Engineer II $79,400 - $124,000. Project Engineer III $91,100 - $142,700. (etc.) Our pay ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
