About the Job
We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our Practice Innovation team to build out data-centric solutions, formulate processes, and analyze the large amounts of data that a large law firm generates. Our Practice Innovation team is tasked with developing customs tools and solutions to improve the firm’s practices and democratize access to the firm’s data. In this role, you’ll help build data pipelines, perform analyses, create data visuals, and assist with the firm’s innovation and AI strategy. You’ll be joining a motivated team that is working to be an industry leader in data and analysis in the legal arena.

Essential Functions:• Work closely with other members of the team to develop custom solutions related to extracting, analyzing, and processing large and small data sets.
• Extract and integrate data from a variety of sources, including SQL databases, third-party APIs, and flat files in order to generate reports and data visualizations.
• Extract and transform data using a variety of tools, including generative AI LLMs (e.g. ChatGPT, Claude, Llama), RegEx, and custom NLP methodologies.
• Develop custom models for predictive and prescriptive analytics.
• Perform advanced analysis to identify trends and patterns within the firm and client's data that can inform strategic decision-making and improve operational efficiency.
• Utilize advanced visualization techniques to create interactive dashboards in Power BI that enhance data storytelling and insight generation.
• Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies that can enhance the firm's data analytics capabilities, staying abreast of industry trends and advancements.
• Develop and present client-facing analytics solutions that can demonstrate the firm's data-driven approach to case management and legal strategy.
• Implement data quality assurance processes to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data across various sources.
• Collaborate with other departments, such as IT, finance, and marketing, to leverage data insights for cross-functional projects.
• Explain your work to others with varying degrees of technical experience.
• Regular interactions with attorneys, clients and users, including presenting findings and summaries of analyses as well collaborating to create data-driven solutions to improve their workflows.
• Mentor and instruct others to ensure that exceptional work product is delivered consistently and in a timely fashion.
• Utilize Jira and Agile/Scrum to manage workload and track progress of work.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and AI, and apply new techniques to improve existing processes and models.
• Master’s degree or equivalent work experience in computer science, data science, statistics or equivalent field.
• At least 5 years’ experience developing and deploying analytical solutions in Python, including extensive experience with pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• At least 5 years’ experience developing data visualizations with Power BI, Tableau or other business intelligence platform.
• At least 5 years’ experience generating predictive and prescriptive analytics, including forecasting, clustering, and regression analysis.
• Extensive experience with SQL and querying databases.
• Experience working with various NLP platforms such as stanza, spaCy, NLTK, and/or other NER-related tools.
• Experience with generative AI, including RAG, fine-tuning, and entity extraction using generative AI.
• Experience generating structured “clean” data from unstructured text documents, including extracting from the text of the document itself as well as associated metadata.
• Experience with querying third-party data sources via GraphQL, rest, or other methods is preferred.
• Experience with R is preferred.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum project management and Jira.
• Experience with Cloud Platforms: Proficiency in using cloud platforms like Azure for data storage, processing, and analytics is a plus.
• Comfortable interacting with attorneys and taking on prominent role related to data, including presenting the results of your analysis to clients and stakeholders.
• Team player, customer service focused, and adept at multi-tasking and prioritization.
• Willingness to mentor less experienced members of the team in developing solutions and best practices.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently under time constraints and be able to thrive within the firm's highly dynamic environment.
• Initiative and problem-solving abilities with a focus on building it better and continuous improvement.
• Keen interest in technology and innovation, and ability to quickly learn new platforms.

Benefits:In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the expected salary range for this Colorado position is between $113,700 and $127,900. In accordance with New York City’s Wage Transparency Law, the expected salary range for this New York City position is between $130,200 and $146,400. In accordance with California’s amended labor code as stated in Senate Bill 1162, the expected salary range for this California position is between $119,200 and $140,000. In accordance with the Washington Equal Pay and Opportunities act, the expected salary range for this Washington position is between $119,000 and $133,900. In accordance with the Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act, the expected salary range for this DC position is between $121,900 and $137,100. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. This position qualifies for the benefits below.
