POSITION SUMMARY:
The PATS LVN reports directly to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit Charge Nurse or Director of Surgical Services. The PATS LVN must be competent to perform pre-op interviews gathering medical and surgical history from patients over the phone. The PATS LVN is responsible for obtaining, organizing, screening, and coordinating patients preoperative documentation and diagnostic testing results prior to the patient's surgery. In addition, the PATS LVN administers nursing care to designated patients under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. The PATS LVN performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties for the perioperative patient.
The PATS LVN will be required to perform nursing duties in the Pre-op Holding area as well as the PACU from time to time to assist the RNs working in those areas. Area of need is determined by the charge nurse or director on a daily basis and adjustments are made to meet the case load demand. LVNs with basic computer skills will be trained to work in the surgical scheduling role as well.
The primary patients provided care in the Surgical Services Department are adults and geriatric patients. The LVN must be competent in the screening of adult/geriatric patients for appropriate physiological, behavioral motor skills and psychological norms.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Graduate from an accredited LVN school with a degree.
Licensure:
- Current active California LVN License.
- Current BLS Certification.
- Intravenous Therapy Certified.
- Blood Withdrawal Certified.
Experience:
- PACU/Pre-op experience preferred.
- 1 + years' experience as an LVN in a clinical setting.
