Job Summary/Objective:
Southwire’s applications engineering, under the senior leadership of Product Management, plays a critical role in servicing the high volume of residential and commercial customers and the rapid growth of industrial, OEM, and utility end users in North America and internationally. The CableTechSupportTM Services was established with the mission statement of Re3TM, to Respond, Rectify, and Restore the electrical systems using Reinforced, Resilient, Reliable Solutions. This large engineering team provides the industry's best-in-class consultation and technical support. We are looking for subject matter experts with hands-on experience in emerging vertical markets to drive the spec, deliver value-added field solutions, and initiate service innovations of wire & cable with connectorized accessories.
The responsibilities include aligning engineering activities with company objectives, driving the spec in the data center, renewable energy (wind, solar, BESS), electric vehicle charging & infrastructure, telecommunication/5G, petrochemical & mining, mass transit, and ports & terminal applications.
This subject matter expert will interface directly with customers, host in-depth product training, and lead troubleshooting efforts while partnering with agents, distributors, inside & outside sales, operation, and product management to deliver value-adding solutions to electricians, general & electrical contractors, engineers, renewable project owners, and EPCs. The individual must have commercial experience and be proficient in ideating, designing, and implementing commercial-scale service solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Drive the spec to offer the best technical and value-added product and system solutions for emerging industrial vertical markets, including data centers, renewable energy, telecom/5 G, EV infrastructure, mass transit, mining, or applications in harsh environments.
2. Identify customers’ technical pain points during the life cycle and translate them into new engineering requirements for products, tools, software, and field solutions. Summarize product features, functionalities, code compliance, and long-term performance and submit ideas into the Stage-Gate process.
3. Review complex electrical wiring designs in AC or DC, including accessories and connectivity with the overall system, to provide the best-in-class installation procedures, innovative hands-on solutions, and field testing.
4. Initiate and launch novel service solutions such as Southwire’s cable repair kits, emergency nitrogen purging services, labor-saving estimators, calculator tools, and GO vs. NO-GO testing recommendations.
5. Utilize extensive application knowledge of the electrical power system and Voice of the Customer to create smart web-based calculators, engineering whitepapers, and technical reference documents on southwire.com/services/cabletech-support-services.
6. Lead technical requests and bid proposals using engineering spec website (CableTechSupport.southwire.com)
7. Market CableTechSupportTM Services’ by generating CableTechTalks customer training videos, authoring Re3TM engineering whitepapers, publishing magazine articles, hosting live webinars, and serving as keynote speakers at trade shows and conferences.
8. Lead codes and standards development activities and drive the spec through the adoption of new requirements.
9. Serve as an in-house applications engineering SME to build organizational capability internally and externally
10. Develop Applications engineering strategy to accelerate growth and open Southwire to new markets.
Education, Experience, and Skills
Required
Minimum Education Level: Master's
Certificates: A minimum of 20 years of equivalent experience in the Electrical Industry
Years of Experience: 18+
Field of Expertise: Electrical Engineering: application support and/or product engineering experience in the Wire and Cable, Power, Utility, Manufacturing, or Electrical Industry is required. Hands-on experience in cable splice & terminations and connectors is a must.
Preferred
Minimum Education Level: Doctorate
Specialized Degree: Engineering
Certificates: Professional Engineer (PE)
Years of Experience: 18+
Preferred Field of Expertise: Extensive field experience in residential, commercial, telecom, or utility installations is highly desirable.
