Job Summary
The successful candidate will perform as a member of the Asset Reliability team in Electric and Gas Asset Strategy within the Asset Management and Centralized Services organization, utilizing a broad knowledge of business and engineering principles and practices acquired through progressive experience.
Job Responsibilities
- Duties and responsibilities include the development of specifications, technical and maintenance standards, and practices for electrical power substation equipment (500KV through 4KV). Provide field support (24 x 7) to operating divisions with operational and maintenance issues associated with substation equipment. Prepare equipment bid requests, evaluate proposals, and purchase recommendations. Local and international travel in support of equipment design reviews, factory audits, equipment inspections, witness factory acceptance testing, review and approve test results. Utilize system expertise and working knowledge of standards and regulations to ensure environmental and regulatory compliance in addition to providing energy solutions for new / large customers.
- Provides analysis and solutions of engineering, specific equipment and complex system performance issues through mature judgment, creativity, and originality by utilizing and adapting a broad knowledge of basic engineering principles and practices acquired through progressive experience, such as switching transient issues, resonance, equipment failures, and equipment mis-operations.
- Project management responsibilities include developing business cases for projects linked to strategic and financial plans; evaluating technical and operational requirements; developing conceptual models and performing feasibility studies; cost estimation; evaluating program cost and impact.
- Maintain and apply working knowledge of PSEG Standards for Business Controls and meet management's expectations for effective internal business controls.
- Productively interact with internal and external multi-disciplined customers, contractors, agencies, and engineers. Provide problem solving services in handling conflicts between PSE&G facilities and others.
Job Specific Qualifications
Required:
- BS in in Electrical Engineering
- Working knowledge of applicable codes (ANSI, IEEE, ASTM, NEC, NESC, etc.).
- A minimum of 8 years of utility experience
- Demonstrated experience working with data related to electrical substations and/or outside plant electric distribution and/or transmission facilities.
- Applicant must have effective problem-solving and decision-making skills, strong planning and organizing skills, must be adaptable and be results-oriented.
- Clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills are essential.
- Ability to cover On Call Assignments to handle emergency replacement work and assist during system emergency situations.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must foster an inclusive work environment and respects all aspects of diversity.
- Must demonstrate and value differences in others' strengths, perspectives, approaches, and personal choices.
- Must be always safety conscious.
Desired:
- Advanced technical training or NJ Professional Engineering License
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering and/or PhD.
- Experience in working on electrical layout, one line control, controls schematics for protective relays, alarms, auxiliary power, SCADA and metering circuits in order to effectively support projects.
- Experience maintaining Substation equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, switchgear, etc. is desirable.
