The County Executive's Office is seeking qualified applicants for this departmental promotional only recruitment for the position of Principal Management Analyst.
Under the direction of the County Chief Financial Officer, the Principal Management Analyst:
Other duties include policy development, policy compliance reviews, program reviews, countywide studies, and special projects.
The Principal Management Analyst also carries Countywide responsibility for coordinating semi-annual performance reports to the County's Board of Supervisors, conducting continual training of departments on the use of performance data to effectively manage programs and services, and assisting the Deputy County Executives and the County Chief Financial Officer with the coordination of program reviews and research and implementation of Countywide administrative/fiscal improvements.
Success in the position requires the use of independent judgment and the application of extensive knowledge of government finances, and government programs and organizations in meeting a wide variety of complex problems involving continual public, intergovernmental, and interdepartmental relations.

Only County of San Mateo employees working in the County Executive’s Office with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in classified, regular, probationary, or extra-help/limited term positions prior to the final filing date may apply.
Under the direction of the County Chief Financial Officer, the Principal Management Analyst:
- Assists in the development and production of the County's $4.2 billion budget.
- Assists the County Chief Financial Officer with long range financial planning and Net County Cost management.
- Coordinates county-wide budget monitoring and preparation of regular financial performance reports.
- Performs budget analysis and development for assigned departments using the County's automated financial and budget systems.
- Oversees one or more of the following units with the Office: Contracts Administration, Finance and Payroll, Assessment Appeals, or Budget, Policy, and Performance.
- Supervises department staff, as assigned.
- Performs fiscal and policy analysis on issues impacting County departments.
- Makes well informed written and oral recommendations to the County decision makers.
