The West Area Tank Farm Projects Engineering organization seeks a Lead Project Engineer to integrate the execution of engineering on various near-term expense projects supporting longer-term capital projects responsible for treating West Area tank waste. The Lead Project Engineer works within and is supported by the Project Engineering and Chief Technology Office Organization working closely with and leading other project engineers, project managers and external agencies (e.g., the Department of Energy). The successful candidate will interface with other engineering groups to execute and implement upgrades to the West Area Tank farm infrastructure, acting in the capacity of Lead Project Engineer/Design Authority (DA) for these projects. The DA will be responsible for the design review strategies and the level of verification and validation necessary to underpin engineering solutions. They will lead the provision of engineering support during design, procurement, fabrication, construction, testing, and turn-over of these projects.
The candidate should be a motivated engineer interested in joining a high performing team focused on project execution, worker safety and deploying innovative engineering solutions to handle Hanford's most challenging tasks.
Tasks include managing all engineering aspects of assigned projects to include performing field walk downs, interfacing with craft/field crews, presenting to Department of Energy, development of Engineering Change Documentation and Statements of Work (SOW) as well as working with various internal and external design A&E and fabrication vendors.
The Lead Project Engineer will:
- Act as a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of the subject matter or the functional area of the assignments.
- Plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.
- Demonstrate interpolative patterned thinking and require minimal guidance.
- Work in an organizational team that encourages innovative solutions and technology development streamlines equipment removal, installation, decontamination and disposal, that Functions as a team leader.

- Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field.

- Prepare Statements of Work, design products, procurements, specifications, etc.
- Lead teams or function as a team member consisting of both internal and external resources.
- Perform technical and cost/benefit evaluations and develop task plans and schedules.
- Prepare Engineering documents, evaluations, and calculations.
- Perform routine administrative activities/duties on time (routine training, safety meetings, timekeeping, continuing training, staff meetings).
- Ensure all documents prepared are of "stand alone" quality.
- Understand engineering work assignments and to be self-directed.
- Be customer service oriented, completing assignments safely, on time, and within budget.
- Provide technical guidance to subcontractors in the execution of design (e.g., ensure use of correct design inputs, utilization of accepted analysis methodologies, design standards, and verification methods).
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior staff members and interns.
Required Qualifications
Grade 20:
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline
Ten (10) years related experience
Grade 21:
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline
Twelve (12) years related experience.
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.
Grade 22:
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline
Fifteen (15) years related experience.
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.
Desired Qualifications
* Previous experience as a Lead Project Engineer and/or Design Authority.
* Previous experience working in a nuclear facility or nuclear project.
* Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplined engineering/technical teams
* Project Management Professional Certification

Compensation & Benefits
In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
Hiring Range Minimum: $126,025
Hiring Range Maximum: $204,775
