Your Role on Our Team
As the Principal Simulation & Analysis Engineer, you will work in and facilitate a collaborative team, ensuring functional excellence in simulation and analysis methodologies and execution of standards and best practices. Reporting to the Mgr NPD Engineering, you will be the expert in all areas of FEA using the ANSYS simulation software. This includes analyzing static and dynamic load cases of power tool components and assemblies and offering timely, reliable recommendations for revisions to increase robustness and optimize weight, size, cost, and performance.
You’ll be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:
+ Guides the development and use of complex models, tools and algorithms with a focus on stress/strain evaluations to support NPD projects and Advanced Development activities
+ Mentors, trains and shares knowledge of FEA to increase overall capabilities of the department
+ Models operational environments, performs trade studies via ANSYS and provides decision support for alternative architectures
+ Consults with teams on loading and boundary conditions and verifies through failure analysis
+ Recommends geometry or material changes for design robustness as well as weight, size, and cost optimizations
+ Validates simulation results with theory and/or test data
+ Regularly articulates complex simulations and their results in an easy-to-understand format with senior management and executives
+ Executes analysis on competitive parts and products
+ Uses highly effective communication skills to quickly understand the depth of work required and provides trade-offs of accuracy versus time to complete analysis; articulates and prioritizes time constraints where needed
+ Receives analysis requests from a variety of customers– must be strong in prioritization, timing, and scope discussions
The TOOLS you’ll bring with you:
+ Bachelor of Science Degree in Modeling & Simulation, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or similar field
+ 7+ years of applicable work experience
+ Strong design background paired with Finite Element Analysis experience
+ Expert knowledge in 3D CAD – Solidworks, NX or similar
+ Expert knowledge in ANSYS simulation software
+ Non-linear material modeling
+ Evaluation of different load-based failure modes: yield, ultimate, fatigue
+ Ability to quickly grasp component and assembly functionality, determine load cases and constraints, and execute varied complexity levels of analysis depending on criticality and timing to New Product Development team members
+ Deep mechanical aptitude is required including a broad knowledge of engineering materials, mechanical properties, and an understanding of the manufacturing processes associated with these materials
+ Strong cross functional communication skills
+ Strong root cause and failure analysis aptitude
+ Managing projects / processes
+ Working independently with limited supervision.
+ Coaching and reviewing the work of lower-level professionals.
+ Problems faced are difficult and complex.
