We are looking for a passionate Principal Software Engineer to join our M365 Security Protect engineering team. In this role, you will design, develop and maintain world-class, scalable, and reliable cloud services that are built to continually enhance and support the security posture of M365, while also creating innovative solutions to help our products meet security requirements seamlessly. You'll also be able to leverage AI and build Copilot technologies to stay ahead of attackers, enhancing our ability to innovate and protect.
As a Principal Software Engineer in this group, you will help us build and architect new services and experiences that will extend our portfolio of world-class solutions for protecting M365. You will be responsible for leading and mentoring a team of creative and passionate software engineers building high quality security cloud services in Azure. You will be investing your time into solving hard security problems, defining architecture, partnering, and ensuring high code quality, availability, scalability, and security of our services. You will be instrumental in creating a positive and productive engineering culture and cultivating this team to build best-in-class solutions with direct impact on protecting our M365 customers. As part of the Microsoft Security organization, you will have a direct impact in contributing to 'Security above all else' as part of the Microsoft Secure Future Initiative (SFI), driven by our mission to protect customer data and privacy in the world's largest productivity suite. You'll work directly on advanced technologies, including access control, secrets management, data analysis, DevOps, and engineering processes. **Responsibilities**
1. Improve application security maturity at scale by designing, implementing, and building security solutions.
2. Partner with product managers and security leaders to ensure security maturity work is being prioritized and addressed across Microsoft 365 services.
3. Building prototypes and proof-of-concept code, working alongside the engineering teams to provide advice on secure design and implementation.
4. Providing design guidance and security reviews to engineering teams and improve security maturity.
5. Security Management: Responsible for leading the development of cloud-based services aimed at automatically enforcing security policy and configuration of both Azure-based PaaS and SaaS services, as well as IaaS based services. We place particular focus on helping teams mitigate against practical, real world attacks based on an understanding of adversary techniques, tools, and procedures.
6. Security Assessment team: Responsible for designing, building, and maintaining a data platform at cloud-scale aimed at providing information needed to enforce security policy and improve the security posture of Microsoft's services. We place focus on helping teams identify issues and mitigate practical, real-world attacks based on an understanding of adversary techniques, tools, and procedures.
7. Access Control and Protection: Responsible for designing, building and maintaining technical stack for authentication, secret management, just-in-time elevation and just-enough access control, protecting engineering systems and infrastructure. We enforce security policy through engineering solutions and provide vital signals throughout services for data privacy, audit and compliance requirements.

**Qualifications**
**Required/Minimum Qualifications:**
· Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
o OR equivalent experience.
. 4+ years of experience building services which run on cloud infrastructure
. 4+ years of experience working on scalable backend and distributed systems
**Other Requirements:**
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:?
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
**Preferred Qulifications:**
· Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
o OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
o OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
