We build and operate critical authentication, authorization and directory services that are used by the millions of Azure, Office 365, XBOX and Windows users worldwide. In the mobile-first cloud-first world, sign-in and sign-up is the front door for reliable end user experience to use any of Microsoft cloud services. We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to lead the design and architecture of programmability and AuthZ components in the directory platform of Entra ID. Entra ID hosts millions of tenants and billions of identities. It serves billions of requests per day in the stacks powering core authentication and programmability. The Directory Platform Team owns and operates the core APIs that are foundational to serving these requests and to the running of the most critical services across Microsoft. Our team is evolving the authorization platform to address the needs of the next decade. Responsibilities include: + Design and develop large scale distributed software services and solutions. + System design through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, code reviews, leveraging data/telemetry to make decisions. + Develop "best-in-class" engineering for our services by ensuring that the services and the components are well-defined and modularized, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored and reusable. + Adhere to and drive modern software engineering practices through design reviews. + Improve test coverage for services, organize and implement integration tests, and resolve problem areas. + Considers testability, portability/monitoring, reliability, and maintainability, and understands when code is ready to be shared and delivered. + Gain a working understanding of Microsoft businesses and collaborate with mentors and leaders in order to contribute to cohesive, end-to-end experiences for our users. + Focus on customer/partner needs through a data driven approach. + Troubleshoot and optimize automation, reliability and monitoring for Live Site Other + Embody our Culture (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/about/corporate-values) and Values (https://careers.microsoft.com/us/en/culture) **Qualifications** Required Qualifications: + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical disciplineAND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python + ORequivalent experience + 2+ years of professional experience building large-scale distributed systems Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: + Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Additional or Preferred Qualifications: + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python + OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python o OR equivalent experience. + 4+ years of professional experience building large-scale distributed systems Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
