We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to help drive innovation and excellence. As an engineer on the team, you will improve services by leveraging some of the latest innovations in Microsoft software and Azure hardware. This is a dynamic role that involves both technical expertise and collaborative skills to contribute to the modernization and enhancement of Microsoft Defender for Endpoints cloud services.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of engineering experience working on large-scale cloud applications and designing and building large-scale distributed systems
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Masters Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of experience designing and developing high-performance and production quality C# or Java server software
- 6+ years hands on experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes, or similar technologies)
- 6+ years experience with Azure PaaS solutions such as Azure Storage, Azure Cosmos DB, and Azure Kubernetes
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
Microsoft will accept applications and processes offers for these roles on an ongoing basis.
Responsibilities
- Leading a complex architecture and design effort with well-established, large-scale systems to optimize services to improve scalability and reduce operating cost
- Driving the quality and infrastructure optimizations effort across the team
- Partnering with experts across geographic and organizational boundaries to make impactful changes to Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and Azure
- Helping team to adhere to modern engineering principles and practices, code reviews, and project management
- Engagement in project planning, work prioritization, and contributing to the projects roadmap and goals including reviewing and executing work items
- Participating in governance activities, manage technical tasks, and ensure quality assurance through automated testing and integration validation
- Sharing knowledge through mentorship and regular team interactions
