We are seeking a Principal Systems Engineer
Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Operations Engineering, the Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for all the planning, installation, upgrading, maintaining and support of the virtualization environment and systems that comprise the Ocean infrastructure onshore and offshore. This position will establish best practices and policies for all aspects of the infrastructure including virtualization for Windows, Linux and Containerized systems and will work in conjunction with vendors and other SMEs to ensure all internal and external operations of the platform are performant, highly available and resilient.
Essential Functions:- Manage the design, development, and maintenance of hardware to support application and OS/software requirements. Will leverage automation using Terraform VMWare and/or AWS CloudFormation for AWS to provision infrastructure as needed by demand with scalability to accommodate future growth.
- Manage and maintain virtual environments and optimize operations to include monitoring and audit controls to ensure best practices and adherence to known standards.
- Exercise leadership and overall responsibility for directing, administering and coordinating the initiatives related to platform operations and responsibilities
- Develops, plans, and implements the platform standards for assigned systems, serving as a technical authority for VMWare standards, policies and procedures.
- Conducts independent platform assessments and develops procedures to confirm or establish that standards are implemented correctly and are effective.
- Documents policies and best practices in support of automation compliance requirements.
- Responsible for overseeing monitoring the health of the servers and taking the appropriate action to maintain system integrity, availability, including documenting procedures, including the use of APM technologies.
- Analyzing log files and drawing conclusions form their contents; monitoring the consumption of critical resources.
- Develop and maintain a thorough plan for upgrading the current system including operating systems, application software, equipment and the implementation schedule as needed.
- Troubleshoot and resolve server software related problems.
- Responsible for configuring, maintaining and allocating storage for all enterprise applications.
- Extensive experience using ITSM/ITIL platforms.
- General understanding of PLM, Agile and containerized middleware.
- General understanding of message brokers, queues, topics and publish/subscribe application integration methods.
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with VMware, AWS
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with virtualized application landscapes and systems with strong emphasis on containerized micro-services-centric solutions.
- 5 years of experience in IT with demonstrated experience is infrastructure, virtualization and hybrid cloud application landscapes
- Advanced troubleshooting skills to maintain an efficient operating environment
- Ability to maintain accurate records and produce reports as requested by management, BMC, VMWare OPS, ServiceNow and APM tools (Dynatrace)
- Must possess skills and knowledge to maintain the virtual fabric, systems and servers in compliance with corporation published standards for security compliance and processes
