The Opportunity
This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location in the GES Global Engineering Services division.
The Principle Engineer will have extensive CAD expertise (AutoCAD, 3dsMax, Revit) and a focus on instrumentation controls design projects, 3D visualization equipment layout design, engineering content management and will also provide Site Engineering services as needed to Lake County on selected projects. The Principle Engineer in this capacity will lead Facility Design Engineering teams in utilizing building information Modeling (BIM) and Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools to develop designs, bid packages, construction and as built drawing documentation in HVAC controls, electrical, lab layouts, architectural and various other trade disciplines. The candidate will also provide site engineering services on selected projects.
The Principle Engineer in a Site Engineer role on selected projects, will oversee construction activities, safety and scheduling for projects executing in Lake County. The Core job responsibility will be to perform electrical, and controls support to Project Engineers, update and verify all drawing disciplines (Architectural & MEP), coordinate outside Engineering firms on proper execution and turnover of demolition, construction and as-built drawing sets to ensure Abbott has up to date drawings in CAD/BIM and under change control in the content management system. Strong communication skills along with technical knowledge of process control systems are required to ensure that the needs of manufacturing are being met on a consistent basis. Will be responsible for the timely execution and completion of project construction milestones and project completion in coordination with the Project Engineer/Project Manager (PE/PM). Prepares written communication and weekly status reports.
What You’ll Work On
+ Independently plans and conducts small- to medium-size assigned projects within engineering specialty requiring conventional types of plans, investigations and/or equipment. Manages multiple, often concurrent, projects and meets deadlines.
+ Works with staff, outside firms and/or consultants to agree on plans and timetables for a specific project; identifies pinch points or conflicts, determines verification and tracking mechanisms; sets performance metrics; may assign responsibilities to team members; may develop budgets.
+ Independently performs economic analysis and feasibility studies related to project alternatives. Responsible for achieving the project's financial targets in support of business objectives.
+ Independently executes, and/or directs others in the execution of, the design of products/ processes/ equipment/ systems/ facilities by applying new engineering theories, concepts, and techniques within the discipline.
+ Integrates financial with technical data. Analyzes complex interdisciplinary problems and identifies their impact; establishes probabilities; understands organizational and budgetary impact of recommendations, recommends best course of action, and sets complex design and process requirements.
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline desired.
+ Desired 10+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience.
+ Demonstrated competency in instrumentation controls design, electrical plans, BIM and visualization technical expertise utilizing industry standard modeling tools.
+ Building and Construction — Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction of buildings, materials/equipment and scheduling activities.
+ Technical background in engineering design, laboratory layout, and medical products/equipment placement highly desired.
+ Engineering HVAC instrumentation and controls design experience.
+ Advanced knowledge in AutoDesk AutoCAD, Revit, 3dsMax and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling and simulation experience.
+ Significant instrumentation and controls design experience preferably with DCS Control Systems, DeltaV, Siemens and PLC systems & wiring diagrams and overall controls systems integration.
+ Project management and construction management experience preferred.
+ Preferred knowledge of Abbott Engineering Standards, Abbott CAD/BIM standards, design methodology and BlueCielo Meridian engineering content management application.

The base pay for this position is $95,000.00 – $190,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
