Position Profile

The Prior Authorization Specialist will obtain prior authorization from non-Medicare insurance companies.

Responsibilities

• Obtains prior authorization from non-Medicare insurance companies.
• Contacts non-Medicare insurance companies for prior authorization upon patient admission.
• Documents authorization notes and status in EMR and patient’s electronic chart.
• Initiates, supports, and participates in efforts to gain authorization.
• Brings complex cases to Prior Authorization Nurse(s) so they can assist in obtaining authorization.
• Maintains and enhances professional skills.
• Adheres to high standards of personal and professional conduct.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED certificate.
• Minimum three years of recent administrative experience in the medical field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hospice experience preferred.
• Knowledge of commercial and AHCCCS payers.
• Knowledge of insurance regulations related to hospice healthcare benefits.
