Process Engineer
Monday - Friday
7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. plus extra hours as needed
Summary
Responsible for championing process improvements, focusing on value stream management, quality improvement and cost reduction. This role will lead projects and coach other team members in the proper use of extrusion techniques. Daily interaction with production staff to extract and analyze operational information and perform statistical analysis to identify root cause analysis. Position will routinely lead process improvement projects in which all departments will be represented and must be able to communicate well with all levels of personnel. This will also require the individual be able to manage project teams without direct report of the team members. Initiate cost reduction initiatives, compiles appropriate information, makes recommendations for action and routinely checks on results obtained. Assists with the preparation and control of capital budget, forecasts costs of development needs and assists in the preparation of capital requests. Ensures compliance of company policies, procedures and objectives regarding processes, initiatives and projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide manufacturing support to the engineering team in the design and development of new processes and products. With a focus on manufacturability and process integration, offer a manufacturing perspective to the product development team.
- Lead major process improvement projects that focus on removing waste within the entire supply chain.
- Work with customer drawings, blueprints and schematics to produce technical extruded products.
- Develop processes and procedures to train peers within the engineering and production teams along with educating employees in the ongoing sustainment of continuous improvement.
- Work with sales, production and engineers to evaluate, analyze, and determine process improvements that impact the “bottom line” and which the best return on investment.
- Support the development and execution of technical strategic planning with focus mainly on the process changes needed for future developments.
- Recommends methods and technologies for process improvement based on manufacturing needs and capabilities.
- Work closely with project managers to identify potential process options, determine process capability and validate the outside processes meet design requirements.
- Assist in the development of technical specifications for future projects and technologies.
- Perform IQ, OQ and PQ for new product implementations into production.
- Perform process capability studies to determine if process is capable of producing, transferring and emerging products.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- A solid knowledge of plastics is preferred.
- Extensive experience in extrusion or injection molding is recommended.
- Extensive experience with process development.
- Background must include experience in more than one of the following areas: medical device manufacturing, extrusion, injection molding, process improvement, industrial manufacturing.
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field such as mechanical or industrial engineering is required or 5+ years in an extrusion manufacturing environment with process competency.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Solidworks.
- Effective communication, listening and diagnostic skills are required to communicate with customers, OEM’s, consultants as well as with internal team members from various departments.
- Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team is essential.
- INDIVIDUAL MUST BE HANDS ON AND WILLING TO WORK IN THE PRODUCTION ENVIRONMENT INCLUDING OFF SHIFT WHEN PROJECTS REQUIRE.
- The ability to travel to divisional and customer locations to support product and process related projects.
- Six Sigma or Lean experience highly recommended.
