Summary - basic function of the role
Provides technical knowledge to the sales and operations teams to match customers' requirements with field service solutions that profitably deliver best in class results while adhering to industry quality standards, safety protocols, and client specifications. Act as technical resource during the project execution, combined with updating execution plans when changes are made in the execution process.
Shift: Monday - Friday, evenings and weekends may be required. Some Travel Required
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Operations support
- Collaborate closely with sales team, field technicians, engineers, and project managers to understand project requirements and technical specifications.
- Conduct thorough research on machining techniques, tooling requirements, and safety guidelines applicable to each project.
- Develop detailed work instructions and procedures for various field machining operations including but not limited to: in-situ machining of large components (e.g., flanges, turbines, shafts) with portable milling, turning, drilling, grinding applications, laser alignment and other specialized processes.
- Ensure all work instructions are clear, concise, and compliant with relevant industry standards and client expectations.
- Incorporate feedback from field personnel to continuously improve work instruction documents.
- Support quality assurance initiatives by ensuring documented procedures meet ISO and other regulatory requirements.
- Assist in problem solving in the event of any on-site issues or changes in execution plan.
- Develops and supply the technical documentation required within the scope of the project.
Proposal / Quotation
- Reviews customer inquiries and determine the actual detailed technical and commercial requirement.
- Assists Application Engineer to develop proposals into final quotations for presentation to Customers.
- Assists in generating technical documentation in support of quotations.
Sales Lead Generation
- Assists Service Account Managers with sales calls and design kick-off meetings on an as needed basis
- Supports sales team in maintaining relationship with customers, on commercial as well as technical levels, to generate requests for quotation.
- Coordinates with sales team to ensure accuracy and completeness of customer/product requirements for hand-off to Operations at contract review
General
- Participates actively and openly to (weekly) team meetings
- Support short and long term forecasting process
- Ensures all HSSEQ rules and regulations are communicated and enforced throughout the Organization. Proactively participate to safety awareness and improvement.
- Represents Hydratight in a professional manner at all times, both internally and externally. To follow the published processes and comply with all company policies and procedures. Be an ambassador for the businesses in particular ensure that Health & Safety comes first at all times.
- Identifies the root causes of process failures and facilitates problem resolution utilizing LEAD tools and techniques
- Pro-active approach to continuous improvement, including process improvement and structural change.
- Work closely with other internal departments on global scale. This includes supporting international enquiries and projects.
Skills and Competencies
- Knowledge of design standards, documentation and certification requirements with industry standards such as ASME, API, and ASTM related to machining and fabrication.
- Working knowledge of marine defense, oil & gas industry, powergen industry and preferably petro-chemical industry
- Proficient in Creo and Windchill. Solidworks is a plus. Basic proficiency in use of Oracle Data base management systems.
- Ability in the use of computers, Microsoft software.
- Excellent technical writing skills with a demonstrated ability to create detailed and accurate work instructions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong and confident communicator (verbal and written), capability to write professional reports and presentations, including presenting at customer
- Motivator within the execution team.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing and coordinating work and equipment flow.
- Fluent in the ability to read, write, and speak in English.
- Possess the drive and initiative to motivate others to accomplish the defined strategies in all areas of the business.
- Strong understanding of various machining processes and equipment.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering preferred with an exposure to field and/or shop machining .
Physical Demands
Employee may have to lift documents/work materials up to 30 pounds in weight. Employee may have to lift tools up to 100 pounds in weight. Employee will have to be able to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations, including traveling by air/auto to remote sites. This can include occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like. Employee may move themselves in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces. Employee will need to move about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another. Employee will need to operate machinery and/or power tools, motor vehicles, and heavy equipment. Employee will need to listen, understand, and speak with team members in person, telephonically, and electronically at all levels within a diverse workforce and with supported organizations. Employee will need to assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. Employee can work in front of a personal computer and telephone for long periods of time. Will have repetitive motions that include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Work Environment
Primary work environment is temperature-controlled office setting but may also be visiting different customers where following appropriate safety protocols at the location would be required. While visiting customers, employee may occasionally be exposed to high/low temperatures, outdoor elements (such as precipitation and wind), high levels of noise, hazardous conditions, small and/or enclosed spaces, or adverse environmental conditions.
