About the Job
The Process Engineer will support all activities relating to sensor and analytical instrument production, including daily manufacturing and test support, process and quality improvement initiatives, strategic cost improvements, plant layout, and play an integral role in new product introduction. This hands-on engineer will work independently, as well as cross-functionally and proactively across departments with the focus to improve manufacturing processes and methods for cost reduction, quality improvement and efficiency.
Essential Job Functions
- Leads projects for process improvements, including root cause investigations, implementation of corrective/preventive actions, cost reduction activities, new product releases/enhancements, capital investments, and other long-term project activities
- Provides daily production support, including tooling and fixture problems, training of production employees, and technical support to purchasing
- Provides development engineering support, including development and implementation of manufacturing procedures and manufacturing requirements, Design for Development (DFM/DFMA), design reviews BOM structuring, process development, process validation and documentation review
- Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new products
- Ability to design and deploy fixturing, jigs, and other equipment for manufacturing and testing purposes
- Provides information for calculating production cycle times, labor requirements, material cost
- Initiates and/or supports engineering change orders for current products
- Evaluates rework and reject levels for design, process, and training improvement opportunities
- Improves and streamlines processes by improving yields, eliminating waste and NVA activities, and implements cost saving ideas
- Creates and modifies work instructions as necessary and establishes appropriate process controls
- Troubleshoots electrical problems on PCBAs
- Performs all required coordination with other operations to ensure that schedules are met, quality is maintained, and manufacturing costs are minimized
- Develops and evaluates equipment and processes to introduce high quality products at a competitive cost
- Participates in the qualification and development of suppliers for components, sub-assemblies, and processes
- Defines new packaging methods and improves existing packaging methods
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or other related technical discipline
Other Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of direct floor support experience in an electro-mechanical assembly and test environment
- Experience working in an ISO 9001 registered company (or other comparable QMS)
- Project management experience with a demonstrated ability to meet schedules and cost targets
- Experience with CAD software and blueprint reading
- Computer programming in Visual Basic / C+ preferred
- Experience with GTAW, LB WELDING is preferred
- Experience with Leak Detection: Helium Mass Spectrometer, Pressure Decay, and Vacuum is preferred
- Previous work experience in union environment.
- Working knowledge of current machining practices, proper material usage and manufacturing processes for small electronics and experience in test, assembly, and troubleshooting
- Ability to solder electrical components when necessary
- Background in product structure, BOMs, time studies, and MRP systems
- Familiarity with LEAN manufacturing/Six Sigma
- Strong computer skills - MS Office and ERP
- Strong judgment and decision-making skills
- Self-starter who follows up on action items and deliverables across all functional areas
- Demonstrated superior organizational skills.
- Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to requests for information
Travel Requirements
- Ability to travel up to 10 percent of the time to vendors and/or other facilities.
