About the Job
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Apply engineering principles to sustain and improve current manufacturing processes, in addition to developing new methods and new products aligned with the growth strategy of Company
- Evaluate new methods and equipment to enhance output of product without hindering quality
- Handle various responsibilities including hands-on materials processing, planning and conducting experiments, and communicating results both verbally and in writing
- Study and improve performance of materials processing equipment, including power processing machines, preforming molds and equipment, kilns and furnaces, and inspection tools
- Using Lean/Kaizen methods, monitor and improve the efficiency, output and safety of manufacturing processes through observations and measurements as well as by collecting and interpreting data from databases, hard copies and other technical and manufacturing personnel
- Confer with management, engineering, manufacturing and other staff regarding production capabilities and schedules
- Monitor manufacturing areas to proactively assess product quality and ensure compliance to ISO guidelines and procedures
- Monitor, optimize and streamline manufacturing processes including production flow, manpower requirements, assembly methods and production equipment
- Design, develop and test and/or source and cost-justify various tooling, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods
- Confer with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of machinery and equipment according to specifications and quality standards
- Oversee upgrades and modifications to existing equipment that will increase productivity
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required, preferably in Materials Science, Ceramic or Chemical Engineering
- Minimum 2 years of experience process engineering in similar industry
- Experience using materials processing equipment such as furnaces, ovens, programmable controllers, metallographic equipment, materials characterization tools, etc.
- Experience with inspection equipment, including CMM, hand tools, visual tools, etc.
- Experience with networked PC based computer system (MS Office, spreadsheets, data bases, graphics, Email, MRP systems, etc.)
- Experience with problem solving and resolution (8D, fishbone, etc.); experience in Lean/Kaizen or Six Sigma preferred
Skills
- Working knowledge of design, inspection and process control software (CAD, CMM, PLC)
- Working knowledge of data analysis tools (SPC, MiniTab and DoE)
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results independently or working with others
- Hands on and very direct approach to problem-solving
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Physical Requirements
- Ability to occasionally lift/push/pull up to 20 lbs.
- Able to sit, stand, bend, squat and walk about the facility.
- Walk of uneven and slippery surfaces

Primary areas of work are supplier and customer interface; development of improved machining and handling methods; identification and selection of next gen fabrication equipment; participation in Lean/Kaizen events to increase quality and output; writing processing procedures and documentation; and transferring process improvements to manufacturing. The day-to-day activities include generation of process drawings (CAD), writing CMM programs, ceramic and metal matrix composite processing trials, furnace optimization, vendor qualification trials, process monitoring and troubleshooting, data collection, statistical analysis and reporting.
