Process Engineer - Refinery - HGA Staffing

Position Summary & Duties:

The Refinery Process Engineer is an onsite position working for a refinery client in the Shreveport, LA area.

We are seeking an experienced Process Engineer to provide technical leadership and drive optimization in refinery operations. This role focuses on maximizing production efficiency, ensuring safety, and implementing sustainable solutions in line with operational goals. The ideal candidate will monitor process units, troubleshoot, and develop solutions to ensure cost-effective production while adhering to strict safety and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct daily monitoring and alarm rationalization to assess unit health, identify abnormalities, and address performance gaps
• Utilize engineering calculations, including mass and energy balances and conversion analysis, to optimize process designs and improve product quality
• Perform data collection, analysis, and interpretation of test results to identify root causes, recommend process changes, and troubleshoot operational issues
• Develop, maintain, and leverage databases of key process variables to support continuous monitoring and optimization initiatives
• Recommend strategies to enhance unit yields, reduce energy consumption, and improve overall cost-effectiveness
• Initiate, justify, and oversee the implementation of new projects, additional monitoring systems, and continuous improvements to drive operational excellence
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, safety, environmental, and maintenance personnel, to resolve process-related challenges and align with project goals
• Conduct feasibility assessments and provide technical evaluations for engineering tests, equipment, and project proposals
• Actively participate in refinery turnaround activities to ensure alignment with project objectives and safety protocols
• Offer expertise in economic analysis, process simulation, and engineering support during all project phases, including design, construction, and startup

Key Competencies and Skills:

• Technical Proficiency: Strong command of process simulation software (Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, or PRO/II), data analysis tools, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Project Management: Ability to plan, initiate, and lead continuous improvement projects aimed at process optimization and cost reduction
• Analytical Skills: Skilled in root-cause analysis, troubleshooting, and data-driven decision-making to identify and resolve operational inefficiencies
• Communication and Leadership: Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills, capable of influencing cross-functional teams and engaging stakeholders at all levels
• Safety and Environmental Stewardship: Commitment to safety and regulatory compliance, actively promoting environmental responsibility and minimizing operational risks

Qualifications:

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
• 2+ years of experience in refinery operations or chemical processing
• Experience with process modeling software and engineering databases is preferred
• Strong problem-solving skills, with a background in managing technical challenges in a refinery or process industry setting
• Candidates should be located within daily commuting distance of Shreveport, LA.
