The Process Engineer - Paper Mill is an engineering position that will work closely with operational leaders and process engineers to identify issues and opportunities and to respond quickly to operational problems. He/She also works closely with Maintenance and Operating Technicians for troubleshooting, maintenance and project work. The Process Engineer reports to the Paper Mill Manager.
Accountabilities
- Leads the design, development, installation, and optimization of manufacturing processes.
- Implements process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
- Work with Operations to ensure that processes are transferred smoothly from development to production.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, including standard operating procedures and process flow diagrams.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to resolve process issues.
- Ownership of raw material, chemical and raw material inventories
- Ownership of quality standards and product specifications.
- Leading the investigation and response to customer complaints.
- Ability to develop and lead machine trials (machinery, chemicals, energy, etc.)
- Lead department and engineering projects that impact key business initiatives - sometimes individual projects, and sometimes leading a team
- Work with operations team to continually improve production rates, efficiencies, yields, and costs.
- Lead cross-functional teams for specific short-term improvement efforts (i.e., 90-day teams).
- Lead and coordinate plant process trials involving new procedures, process conditions, equipment, specifications, and/or chemicals, etc.
- Create and manage process documentation.
- Champion the use of area IT-based systems (i.e., PI, Proficy, Cognex, etc.).
- Monitor and report on daily environmental, operating and quality parameters.
- Provides technical support to the shift supervisors and hourly employees
- Every employee must implement Kruger environmental policy in their daily tasks. In particular, employees are responsible to abide by legal and corporate environmental requirements and must adhere to all environmental procedures. Every employee is responsible to report all environmental incidents and any potential environmental hazards.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Pulp & Paper Science, or related field
- 3-5 years experience in a Process Engineer role (or similar type work) in paper or paper related field, with preference for experience with tissue manufacturing
- Experience working in a union environment preferred
- Ability to be self directed
- Exhibiting safety leadership, modeling safe behaviors, and encouraging safety engagement
- Demonstrated leadership focused on accountability and results.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) required.
- Strong communication skills.
- Excellent organization and follow up skills.
- Trustworthy / able to handle confidentiality.
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
