The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing procurement objectives and will own the performance of a team of commodity buyers. The role requires innovative, critical thinking skills toward solving problems and anticipating future issues.
The Procurement team applies leading edge theories and techniques to resolve complex and often unusual tactical issues impacting the department and programs. The Procurement Manager will work on problems of strategic scope where there is significant impact beyond the confines of their own job and department. This position is located in San Jose, CA. However, we cannot provide relocation for this role.
This role reports directly to the Manager of Supply Chain and supports activities from the receipt of a customer contract through shipment of the product.
Responsibilities:Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance to employees performing purchasing responsibilities and ensure appropriate assignment based on special qualifications and job knowledge.
- Manage, plan and organize workload for a smooth flow of priority and routine tasks.
- Preparation of yearly performance reviews and recommendations for individual growth.
- Review, approve and distribute procurement requests and follow up to verify prompt action of buyers; collaborate with buyers if necessary to resolve issues.
- Support establishment of new sources of supply.
- Ensure buyers comply with Small Business Administration and Department of Defense regulations in procurement activities, including outreach efforts to disadvantaged suppliers.
- Review and react to metrics by identifying and solving problems, making improvements and advancing process control.
- Develop and support teams that make suggestions, take initiative and actively implement improvements.
- Approve the negotiation of purchase orders and proposals within authorized limit.
- Ensure appropriate methods of purchase order administration are developed and maintained.
- Monitor or participate in high dollar procurement negotiation.
- Monitor purchases and proposals to ensure compliance with Company and procurement policies and procedures.
- Ensure the most economical price (i.e. best value) and bid to buy integrity is attained.
- Resolve major material problems that may arise.
- Meet with key suppliers to promote the Company's best interest in the purchase of materials and services to identify changing market conditions.
- Support and promote Supply Chain Management initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with contractual and customer requirements.
- Ensure the coordination of purchase material costs inputs required to support proposals.
- Provide reports to management.
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, or Business / other
- 8+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a supply chain role
- Two (2) year of experience in a leadership role
- 3+ years in Aerospace/defense manufacturing industry background
- Experience/knowledge of FAR/DFARS regulations
Preferred:
- An extensive knowledge of MRP systems, preferably SAP, with experience driving business efficiency through better use of ERP tools
- Advanced user of Microsoft Office tools, in particular Excel
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience delivering presentations
- Self-starter and Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams
- Ability to develop new and improve upon existing business processes that enhance efficiency and business outcomes
- Ability to respond in a constantly changing and fast paced environment to adapt to current situations and drive results
- Must have strong communication skills and ability to build relationships across functions and levels
- Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and priorities at once in a fast paced environment
