What you'll do
As the Product Design Engineer based at our R&D facility in Plymouth, MI, you will be at the forefront of driving the design, development, and validation of vehicle design features and your role will be critical for improving the quality and durability of our products.
You will enjoy providing accurate, timely and cost-effective engineering solutions that work well within the limits of our manufacturing equipment and assembly capabilities. What you'll do
As the Product Design Engineer based at our R&D facility in Plymouth, MI, you will be at the forefront of driving the design, development, and validation of vehicle design features and your role will be critical for improving the quality and durability of our products.
You will enjoy providing accurate, timely and cost-effective engineering solutions that work well within the limits of our manufacturing equipment and assembly capabilities. Additionally, your design solutions must meet customer expectations, perform for the desired warranty period, and comply with regulatory requirements.
You will also:
- Utilize Lean and Six Sigma techniques to achieve simplification and commonization
- Solve manufacturing and assembly problems
- Create optimal solutions to support the business in partnership with other engineers, production, purchasing, and customers
- Provide support to engineering's internal customers (production, sales, purchasing teams, etc.)
- Create Engineering tree (task list) to comply with customer and vehicle specifications
- Develop a solid model to correspond with engineering tree
- Pull ECN numbers and start the ECN process that correspond with the Engineering tree
- Determine the effectiveness of engineering solutions
- Develop an understanding of unintended consequences to manufacturing processes, tooling, and capability
- Coordinate the effective date of design engineering solutions
- Initiate changes to drawings, solids models, and bills of material
- Effectively utilize Aurora software to research product and spec history and structure
What you need to be successful
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related Engineering discipline
- Five or more (5+) years of Product Design Engineering solutions expertise
- A solid track record of problem-solving and thinking analytically
- Versed in utilizing NX and TeamCenter for product development, integration, and PLM
- Experience utilizing SolidWorks 3D CAD to create detailed 3D models
- Knowledge of the extrusion process, metal fabrication, forming, tolerances, and capabilities
- Familiar with engineering statics, dynamics, structural mechanics, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics
- Proficient in Microsoft 365, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook
- A history of prioritizing effectively and executing multiple concurrent assignments
- Proficient with program management and time management tools
- An understanding of vehicle design, testing and certification process
- Savvy about ANSI-Y 14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerance
- Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for delivery vehicles
- Product Design experience within the on-highway, heavy truck, specialty, or aut
