About the Role:
U.S. Pipe is seeking a Corrosion Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing testing and data analysis related to the fields of corrosion, corrosion protection, coatings, linings, and materials science in support of the Product Innovation Corrosion Engineering Group. The candidate should have a basic understanding of corrosion, corrosion protection methods, metals, and chemistry, and should expect to be exposed to laboratory, industrial, and corrosion test site environments.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Cutting and preparation of test pipe and samples for evaluation of corrosion and corrosion protection methods of U.S. Pipe products.
- Assisting in conducting quarterly corrosion protection monitoring at U.S. Pipe’s Everglades Test Site.
- Setting up electrochemical test equipment and conducting electrochemical polarization and potentiodynamic corrosion studies on various materials and corrosion protection methods under evaluation.
- Evaluation and testing of various polyethylene encasement films utilizing ASTM Elemendorf Tear Tester.
- Setting up and conducting ASTM B117 Salt Fog testing on various coating and lining materials under evaluation.
- Operating and maintaining airless coating spray equipment.
- Operating and maintaining flame spray and arc spray zinc metallizing equipment.
- Operating and maintaining fusion bonded epoxy application equipment.
- Operating and maintaining U.S. Pipe coating test equipment and keeping instruments up to date regarding calibration and certification.
- Operating and maintaining U.S. Pipe cement lining application equipment and test instruments.
- Maintaining U.S. Pipe corrosion test equipment.
- Assisting in failure analysis investigations.
- Perform other duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in Corrosion Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering.
- 3 years’ experience working in Distribution and Inventory Management department or related area.
- Competency with RTS System and various RF devices such as handheld scanners and touch screen computers.
- Basic understanding of bar-coding and product identification techniques.
- Must have basic knowledge of corrosion related subjects including but not limited to; corrosion theory, electrochemistry, cathodic protection, metallurgy, coatings, and linings.
- Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint software.
- Candidate is expected to acquire NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) basic certification within 1 year and advance certification within 3 years.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Must be able to lift and carry test pipe specimens weighing up to 100 lbs.
- Must be able to withstand hot summer temperatures associated with Everglades Florida test site and molten iron pipe manufacturing facilities.
