A South Houston multi-national chemical organization seeks a Production Manager / Production Engineer to join their growing team. The organization is looking for a top notch Production Manager / Production Engineer candidate to add to the management team to assist in their growth plans. The Production Manager / Production Engineer is responsible to provide process, mechanical, chemical, and project engineering assistance to operations. Responsibilities include developing & implementing technology initiatives to maintain and improve the operability, safety, quality, and cost of the unit. This position will report directly to the Plant Manager, and will work closely with other plant resources, particularly the Production Leader, Production Supervisor, and Supply Chain Supervisor. The right individual must be willing to take ownership and dedicate the time needed to complete departmental and company-wide objectives. Must have the aptitude to take the initiative and do what’s best for the department and the company. This individual will have 4+ years of related chemical manufacturing process operations or industry work experience and have a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
Essential Duties:
- Ensures organization maintains core values and policies as set
- Hold yourself and operations and packagers responsible for following and going above safety policies set forth by the site
- Monitors and optimizes the production process on a daily basis to deliver the best product at the lowest manufacturing cost
- Works with the maintenance team to ensure the right short-term operation and maintenance strategies are in place and executed upon
- Support the safety, health & environment initiatives at the site
- Assist Production Leader to set direction and goals for the production department
- Update, review, and approve operating procedures, standard operating conditions, and P&IDs.
- Lead and/or assist in safety, quality, and process related incident investigations.
- Develop and implement process technology and cost improvement initiatives, including uptime, cycle time, yield, energy reduction, and waste minimization to ensure business goals are met.
- Assist with capital improvement projects. Utilize experience to design, specify, and manage installation and startup.
- Function as an individual contributor as well as in a team environment. The teams may include professionals, contractors and management personnel.
- Maintain product and raw material specifications. Ensures qualification of new raw materials at the site.
- Maintain the Technical Standards and other essential process technology documentation.
- Monitor the process on an on-going basis to look for positive and negative shifts to identify improvement opportunities using statistical process control and process historian trending tools
- Provides technical assistance to maintenance, accounting, supply chain and product development teams as needed.
- Collaborate in the harmonization and standardization with sister company on operations.
Requirements
- (Required) Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from accredited university.
- Minimum 4+ years of related chemical manufacturing process operations or industry work experience
- Must come out of the Chemical or similar industry
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical/chemical engineering and process safety management principles.
- Ability to identify and execute continuous improvement ideas.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and application of Root Cause Analysis concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to understand manufacturing processes and best practices required to support operations.
- Ability to self-manage and network with other areas/site/corporate resources.
- Demonstrated computer skills for the full MS Office package. SAP user knowledge would be preferred. Minitab or other statistical data analysis tools are a plus. LIMS user knowledge or other lab software would be preferred.
