PRODUCTION MANAGER - Raw Materials
Location: Reading, PA
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE PRODUCTION MANAGER - Raw Materials
- Manage the activities of the Raw Materials Department, consisting of more than one sub-team, with consideration for the goals and objectives of the organization.
- Leads the scrap/revert management collection of all scrap within Reading.
- Coordinates the return of scrap to reading from other Carpenter locations.
- Works to plan, develop and provide, the best value for Arc and VIM scrap charges.
- Plans, coordinates, and owns providing the least number of recharge buckets for VIMS and Arc melt.
- Ownership of process from scrap collection through scrap in the bucket to melt customers.
- Physical amount and Cost accountability for scrap inventory
- Works with purchasing and planning insuring we have proper scrap at proper levels for the best value.
- Ensures, educates, and owns the prevention of scrap/revert mixes through the processes.
- Owns the availability of scrap containers for the process managers.
- Leads the building six, scrap processing center team, along with the growth plans for improving and enhancing scrap preparation.
- Respsonible for slag processing facilities within Carpenter.
- Responsible for determining and working with Purchasing on the sell of excess or obsolete scrap inventory.
- Develop goals and objectives for the department that are aligned with those of the larger manufacturing organization. Develop, define, and lead the implementation of plans, actions, and measurements to meet department goals. Measure and evaluate execution of the plans and make appropriate adjustments to meet the aligned goals and objectives.
- Maintain knowledge of the existing manufacturing systems including the computer systems, steel making processes, material flow and handling schemes, quality systems, and process control techniques.
- Evaluate and recommend new equipment, and process and maintenance technologies.
- Define and communicate performance expectations for staff and coach and counsel them in the performance of job responsibilities. Develop and manage departmental budget.
- Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in preferred. High School Diploma required.
- 8+ years of related experience, including 5+ years of experience at a lower level manager position or Manufacturing Engineer position.
- Working knowledge of MS Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
- Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong problem-solving skills, goal oriented and results driven.
- Ideal candidate must have the ability to inspire, motivate, and influence others and communicate complex technical information.
