About the Job
Surly brews a lot of beer and someone needs to keep track of it all! Surly's Production Manager is responsible for coordinating production schedules, purchasing and forecasting. The Production Manager is detailed, passionate about beer, and can communicate effectively within many areas of production, as well as cross-departmentally.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates production schedules with VP of Brewing Ops/Lead Brewer/Packaging Manager
- Manage and work with the Material Resource Planner to ensure that orders are met in a timely fashion.
- Building and entering of new items, BOM’s, and Production orders in Orchestrated Beer SAP Software.
- Forecast and Purchase packaging materials including, but not limited to cans, cartons, bottles, labels, etc. under supervision of VP of brewing operations. Work with vendors to insure product availability, competitive pricing, and quality.
- Participate in planning meetings.
- Work closely with Logistics Director to ensure that all outbound and inbound materials are scheduled as efficiently as possible.
- Work with all of production to streamline and find efficiency within the schedule.
- Collaborate with creative department and director of brand development to meet all deadlines for art and proofing of packaging materials.
- Work with production management team to maintain Shelf life and quality parameters and manage schedule accordingly.
- Works within Obeer and maintains forecasting/MRP documents for raw materials
- Partner closely with senior leadership to develop actionable, measurable projects that accelerate sales growth and improve sales & marketing effectiveness
- Work closely with other department heads to further develop metrics, KPIs, and insight that provides performance improvement
- Additional Duties as Assigned
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Understanding of the Brewing process, and experience working in production environment preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with other teams.
- Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operating metrics
- SQL query experience preferred
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of Industry and standards and practices
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university required.
- Two to four years purchasing experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Orchestrated Beer SAP software, and/or comparable project management system.
- Prior experience writing SAP compatible UI code strongly preferred
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Managing and developing team members within the department
- Performing weekly and quarterly staff check-ins as well as annual performance reviews to review performance agreements and consideration for merit-based increases
- Clearly defining direction, roles and responsibilities within the team, prioritizing projects and managing resources efficiently.
- Executing performance agreements for all employees and holding team members accountable to their goals and expectations
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position operates around a ‘mostly’ traditional schedule in an office environment, but can require long hours and evening/weekend work when the demand calls for it. Participation at relevant brewery and other company events is assumed.
