The Evergreen Packaging Turlock Carton Converting Facility is located in Turlock, California, within an hour of the California Napa wine country and in close proximity to the city of San Francisco . Opened in 1957 and employing 130 team members, the facility prints and die cuts refrigerated gable top cartons for a variety of national and regional brands supplying retail groceries and schools throughout the western US and Canada.

Purpose of the job: 

Responsible for supervising the hourly production Team Members on shift in order to meet the safety, environmental, production, quality and cost goals of the department, as well as to meet customer delivery dates. This position is also responsible for overseeing Team Member training, enforcing all rules, policies and procedures recommending disciplinary action when required, verifying and approving work hours and pay rates utilizing electronic timekeeping systems. The shift supervisor is responsible for the safe and productive operation of the entire plant during off shift hours.  At times they have 60 or more direct reports and are responsible for all areas of the plant, to include not only printing, but supply chain, sealing, maintenance and QA when on off shifts.  They work rotating shifts including all overtime, to include weekend work, with their hourly team.  They report directly to the Converting Manager and have full accountability for the safety, productivity and quality on their crew.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

1. Ensure all employees are knowledgeable of and adhere to Evergreen Packaging safety policies and procedures, as well as OSHA regulations.
2. Work with HR and Managers to meet our facility goals
3. Organize, manage, and direct the activities of employees assigned on shift to meet production goal. Verify and approve work hours and pay rates utilizing the electronic timekeeping systems.
4. Responsible for effective employee relations. Provides employee coaching and development. Resolve employee issues through problem resolution.  Ensure hourly employees have proper training and tools to meet department goals
5. Meet production goals by balancing quality, productivity, performance, cost, safety, environmental, and morale to achieve positive results in all areas of the department.
6. Work with other departments, shifts and direct reports to achieve team attitude among crews and peers.
7. Check work areas for safety hazards, conduct weekly safety meetings with department employees, communicate the status of orders, schedule departmental clean-ups, communicate with Quality Assurance Manager concerning all issues affecting quality (side seams, skiving issues, mixed loads, etc.). 
8. Provide products and services that consistently meet the mutually agreed upon specifications of both our internal and external customers.
9. Maintain food safety in manufacturing environment
10. Responsible for reporting food safety problems and implement corrective action as required
11. Ensure that all requirements of SQF System are being administered and adhered to.
12. To undertake operational duties as required to meet deadlines and/or cover for staff absence, filling gaps in resources in all areas
13. Review HAACP plan yearly
14. Participate in monthly food safety internal audits
15. Allocating work to, and overseeing the work of the production team, supply chain team, sealing team, QA team, plate room team during off shift hours.
16. Checking the suitability and quality of materials and all print operations during the production process through to the final quality check and dispatch.
17. To review and make recommendations to ensure that operations run effectively.
18. To work closely with HR to produce and review individual/team performance. Providing information and commentary on a regular basis.
19. Purchasing critical items for the plant having direct relationships with vendors and maintaining positive relations with the vendors to aid in the success of the facility meeting production goals.  
20. Ensure that team completes all training requirements
21. Assist in annual verification of area SOP’s

Qualifications:

      Education, Skills and/or Experience Required:

1. 4 year degree technical undergraduate degree preferred or related field and/or equivalent experience.
2. 5-7 years of operating experience
3. A demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
4. Supervisory skills.
5. Ability to balance and achieve positive results in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, cost and employee relations.
6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
7. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work well under pressure.
8. Strong team player.
9. Knowledge of production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of product.
10. Knowledge of business and management principles.
11. Computer literate.
12. Knowledge of Food Safety Requirements
13. Ability to interpret and administer SQF System    

Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands: 

1. Must be able to sit, stand, kneel, squat 8 to 10 hours a day
2. Must be able to wear all necessary safety equipment
3. Must be willing to work on manufacturing production floor
4. Turning while carrying 25 lbs.
5. Lifting a 40 lbs. load from floor level
6. Tearing carton tests – involves flexion of wrists
