About the Job
Key Responsibilities:
Review and approve engineering plans, blueprints, and design documents for
compliance with structural integrity, fire safety standards, and building codes for
NYS and local building codes.
Conduct regular technical onsite evaluations of building structures, mechanical
systems, electrical systems, and other components to ensure compliance with
safety regulations.
Inspect key structural components (e.g., foundations, framing, roofing) and
mechanical systems (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing) to ensure adherence to
safety standards.
Identify and address potential safety hazards, structural weaknesses, and code
violations, ensuring corrective actions are taken by contractors or property
owners.
Ensure all permits, licenses, and certification for construction projects are
obtained and adhered to throughout the project life cycle.
Issue code compliance certificates, notices of violation, and corrective action
plans based on inspection results.
Provide guidance and support to project team on best practices for code
compliance and risk management as well as assist in the resolution of any
disputes or compliance issues with regulatory agencies.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NYS building codes, zoning laws, and safety
regulations to ensure compliance and enforcement.
Collaborate with architects, contractors, building officials, and other engineers to
provide expert advice on building safety and design compliance.
Prepare and submit detailed engineering reports, inspection reports, and code
compliance documentation for compliance records.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
(Master’s degree preferred).
Must hold a valid Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York State.
Certification as a Building Safety Inspector through the International Code
Council (ICC) or an equivalent certification body is required.
At least 3+ years of experience in building compliance, construction
management, or engineering
Proven experience in building inspections, code compliance, and safety
assessments.
Knowledge of relevant NYS and local building codes, zoning regulations, and
construction safety regulations.
Strong technical knowledge of engineering principles and building construction
practices.
Proficient in using engineering and construction software tools.
Expertise in reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering plans, and technical
documents.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex
issues and provide effective solutions.
Proficiency in report writing and documentation of technical findings.
Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, contractors, architects, and
government officials.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to different project sites as needed.
Preferred Requirements:
Masters degree in Engineering or a related field.
Experience with environmental impact assessments and sustainability projects.
Familiarity with NYC/NYS construction codes and standards
