Associate Professor of Education and Department Chair Tenure Track Faculty Opening
Salary Range: $135,000.00 - $165,000.00

The Department of Education at Manhattan University seeks outstanding applicants for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the Associate Professor level, with a start date in August 2025. Essential duties and responsibilities include teaching a variety of general education courses, modeling excellent teaching, advising between 25-35 students each semester, and working collaboratively with Education Department faculty in the following programs: Adolescence Education with Special Education, Childhood Education with Special Education and Graduate Special Education. This search is open to candidates specializing in secondary education (grades 7-12) in the disciplines of English, social studies, or mathematics. Expertise in teaching students with disabilities is a plus. The Department Chair will be responsible for overseeing several programs, so priority will be given to candidates with teaching and administrative experience at multiple levels.
This position includes Department Chair responsibilities, including but not limited to the following:
- Promoting and modeling excellence in teaching and learning in the Department
- Manage all aspects of Departmental administration
- Create and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with partner schools
- Teach undergraduate courses
- Prepare and submit reports for program accreditation
- Support the recruitment and retention of students
- Fosters diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging as well as collaboration with colleagues and students
The successful candidate must ascribe to the Lasallian mission, hold a Doctorate in a subject affiliated with adolescent education, have a minimum of five years of successful teaching and advising in a school setting, have administrative experience in a school context, and have experience teaching and administration in a higher education context as well. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong knowledge of New York City schools.

This is an excellent time to join the Department of Education in the Kakos School of Arts and Sciences. The Education Department offers AAQEP accredited degrees including BS/BA degrees for individuals who are eligible for initial certification in Dual/Adolescent Students with Disabilities in English, Spanish, Social Studies, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics. We also offer BS/BA degrees for individuals who are initially certified in Dual/Childhood Students with Disabilities and five-year BS/BA/MSED degrees in these same programs.
Our education degrees lead to New York State teaching certifications. They blend theory and practical experience, which enhances their understanding and application of content. Multiple opportunities are provided for clinic-based experiences, fieldwork and internships with our New York City partner schools including the New York City Department of Education school districts in the Bronx, as well as Yonkers Public Schools and the New York Archdiocese Schools. These placements serve as learning laboratories for our students. Furthermore, collaborations afford opportunities for networking and future employment. Manhattan University organizations for students include Kappa Delta Pi and Council for Exceptional Children.
