Candidates hired in this position will work in person but will have the flexibility to work remotely when program need allows.
Overview:TITLE: Program Coordinator ( SYEP / WLG )
REPORTS TO: SYEP Program Director
HOURS: 35 Hours/Week Exempt
LOCATION: 797 Bushwick Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11221
SALARY: $40,000 - $45,000
JOB SUMMARY: The Program Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Good Shepherd’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) and Work, Learn, Grow (WLG) program at Bushwick Leaders High School. The Program Coordinator strongly contributes to the overall development, implementation and supervision of the program as well as supports components of the community school and after school program with the Community School director.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Oversee all daily operations of the Work, Learn, and Grow (WLG) Program and the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).
- Create a culture that is cheerful, welcoming, and youth friendly.
- Work with all other program staff to ensure work readiness trainings are high quality, rigorous, and meet the needs and interests of students and business partners.
- Develop a robust menu of business partners (with a focus on program priority employment sectors) and internship placement sites that respond to the needs and interests of participants.
- Be the point person liaising with business partners during the summer to troubleshoot issues that arise with student placements.
- Work collaboratively with GSS community school programs located in the school.
- Develop and implement a program recruit and retention plan in partnership with school leadership.
- Ensure DYCD contractual requirements are met.
- Attend external meetings and trainings with DYCD and DOE leaders as needed.
- Work collaboratively with GSS central office support departments, providing information as needed in a timely manner.
- Represent agency on relevant external committees and work groups.
- Create detailed policies and procedures for program operations.
- Support community school and after-school programming.
- Participate in school leadership activities.
- Alongside the Community School Director support the development of partnership with the school administration.
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree Required.
- Bilingual in Spanish required.
- Minimum three (3) years of related experience, including experience supervising or managing summer youth employment programs.
- Strong familiarity with the NYC employment field and business sector(s) and industry(ies) relevant to the SYEP program.
- Experience working with high-school aged students.
- Strong relational skills and community engagement experience.
- Track record of successfully engaging hard to reach youth
- Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based youth and family development perspective
