What is the Summit Experience?
The Summit Bechtel Reserve is a 10,600-acre outdoor adventure and education facility near the New River Gorge National Park, in southern West Virginia. As a Scouting America National High Adventure Base, the Summit offers formative and transformational experiences to young people between the ages of ten and twenty. The Summit Experience is a camping and high-adventure program, including climbing, ziplining, target and ranger activities, mountain biking, skateboarding, whitewater rafting, and more. The Summit Experience staff ensures that participants have an incredible visit to the Summit! We are looking for engaged, adventurous, and interactive individuals to join our team for the summer of 2025!

Duties & Responsibilities | â— Directly supervise, coach, and counsel the Summit Experience Mountain Rovers, the front-line staff of the program, to ensure participants have a safe, fun, and memorable experience â— Train department staff to carry out prescribed policies and procedures in the Staff Handbook â— Communicate with participants and groups to ensure quality experiences â— Implement adjustments based on feedback and input from participants and staff members â— Communicate with leadership, staff, and departments to ensure quality program delivery â— Provide formal and informal feedback to Summit Experience staff (performance evaluations) â— Write end-of-season report, for inventories, recommendations, and department improvements. â— Provide leadership and participate in camp-wide activities (campfires, ceremonies, etc.) â— Exemplify the aims and methods of Scouting through the principles of the Scout Oath & Law â— Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area â— Other duties or projects as assigned by S.B.R. leadership â— Abide by policies and procedures outlines in the SBR staff handbook |
Qualifications & Training | â— Twenty-one years of age or older by the start of employment â— Hold or be able to attain Red Cross (or equivalent) First Aid and C.P.R. (adult) certifications â— Must be able to secure a Summit driving permit, including submission of driving record â— Previous Scouting and/or outdoor recreation experience required â— Previous management, leadership, and Summit experience strongly preferred â— Keen attention to detail and strong organizational skills â— National Camping School Resident Camp /Program Director card or ability to obtain â— Ability to use Microsoft Teams daily for work-related communication and coordination â— Be or become a registered member of Scouting America |

Physical Requirements | â— Up to 10 hours a day of either standing, walking, hiking, and the ability to lift 50 lbs. â— Can pass the physical exam and approved for SBR height and weight requirements HERE |
