Position Title: Program Manager, YMCA International Learning Center (ILC) Boston
Position Type: Full-time exempt position
Hours: The program manager is required to work onsite Monday through Friday mornings at our East Boston facilities (215 Bremen Street YMCA and at 54 Ashley Street). Some in-person afternoon hours are required in our Downtown office. Occasional evening virtual hours are required.
The ILC program manager is passionate about supporting adult English language learners as they strive for thriving self-sufficiency in the U.S. workforce and culture. This position reports to the program director and is responsible for coordinating and managing the educational programs at YMCA Boston International Learning Center, including the East Boston Adult English Program, the East Boston Culinary Program, and the online English for Immigrant Entrepreneurs Program. The role involves conducting intake sessions, administering assessments, advising students, developing workshops, and maintaining relationships with community partners. Additionally, the candidate will oversee program operations, ensure compliance with guidelines, and implement recruitment strategies. Ideal candidates will have a relevant bachelor's degree (master's preferred), experience with diverse populations, bilingual abilities in English and Spanish, and strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and YMCA platforms is required.
· Educational Background:
o Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; master’s degree preferred.
· Experience:
o Experience working with diverse student populations is strongly preferred.
o Experience in program management, recruitment, and/or partnership development.
· Skills:
o Bilingual in English and Spanish is strongly preferred.
o Strong organizational and communication skills.
o Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
o Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
o Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and sufficient digital literacy skills to use YMCA platforms effectively.
Salary range
Annual Salary: $56,000 – 62,400
Location: YMCA Education and Training, downtown Boston office at 100 Franklin Street
Key Responsibilities
East Boston Adult English Program (50%):
· Student Engagement:
o Collaborate closely with the program director to conduct information, intake sessions, and orientations for new and returning students.
o Conduct one-on-one advising sessions to support students' personal and professional goal setting.
o Document goals and employment & education outcomes in the ILC internal student database.
· Testing and Monitoring:
o Collaborate closely with the program director to administer BEST Plus 2.0, TABE CLAS-E, and other ILC tests as needed.
o Work closely with the program director to administer pre-, mid- and post-tests and report test results.
o Monitor students' daily attendance; address any attendance issues with appropriate solutions.
· Program Development:
o Develop workshops, guest speaking sessions, and field trips that align with the existing curriculum.
o Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with community partners to complement YMCA’s program offerings and resources.
o Provide quarterly follow-up with graduated students to collect data on their personal, educational, and professional development after graduation.
· Administrative Duties:
o Participate in weekly staff meetings.
East Boston Culinary Program (40%):
· Program Operation and Compliance:
o Oversee the program operation and ensure that all required data is provided accurately and on time to meet program guidelines and deadlines.
o Manage the intake process to ensure a smooth and efficient experience for all accepted applicants.
· Recruitment and Testing:
o Work closely with the program director to develop and implement effective recruitment strategies designed to attract qualified candidates.
o Plan and conduct in-person information sessions for program applicants.
o Administer pre-and post-tests (BEST Plus 2.0, TABE CLAS-E) and report test scores.
English for Immigrant Entrepreneurs Program and Others (10%):
· Program Support:
o Assist with the intake process for the English for Immigrant Entrepreneurs program.
o Develop and maintain relationships with community partners to enhance program offerings and resources.
o Work closely with the program director to administer pre- and post-tests and report test results.
o Occasionally assist with other responsibilities as needed.
