The City of Torrance is recruiting for a Program Specialist to be part of the Community Services Team!
The Department
The Community Services Department offers Torrance residents the unique opportunity to help achieve a sense of purpose, identity, self-worth and improved self-esteem within the specialized areas of Cultural Arts, Library, Parks and Recreation.
The Position
This Program Specialist position involves both indoor and outdoor duties, such as the restoration and landscaping of the Preserve, and leading tours and teaching classes. The Madrona Marsh Preserve is the last remaining freshwater marsh in Los Angeles County. Within the approximately 45 acres, there are over 250 species of plants and 265 species of birds that use the Preserve during migration. The Nature Center Programs are designed to increase public awareness and promote environmental education and other nature/conservation related issues.
The Program Specialist assists with the leadership of volunteers in the restoration of the Preserve including weeding, planting and watering; monitors facility and equipment to ensure appropriate and safe utilization by participants and other personnel; plans programs and prepares monthly and master calendars of activities; prepares and publishes informational brochures and flyers; completes program registrations; provides clerical support; and other duties as assigned.
Hours
This is a recurrent, part-time, non-civil service, as needed position. Hours are approximately 15-20 hours per week. This position will be expected to be available to work most weekends year-round, including some holidays.
