ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP® is seeking a Project Accountant to join our Finance and Accounting team located at our corporate office in Newburgh, Indiana. This position is onsite.
The Project Accountant will be responsible for managing all accounting aspects of a portfolio of projects in a professional and knowledgeable manner. Duties include interpretation and execution of contract and contract compliance; adherence to appropriate revenue recognition standards; receivables management; state and local tax and business registration research and reporting; and ensuring that generally accepted accounting principles are properly applied. The project accountant is responsible for keeping both senior leadership and project management informed, on a timely basis, of the status of projects, especially those that deviate from expectations.
The essential functions of the position include:
- Contract responsibilities include:
- Initial interpretation, execution, and adherence to terms in customer contract
- Transitioning contract delivery from the Construction phase to post-construction services, including Measurement and Verification and/or Operations and Maintenance, if applicable
- Research of project-specific sales and use tax requirements, and local business operating tax filings and registrations relevant to delivery sites
- Effectively utilize ERP Contracts Management functionality to maintain complete project file documentation
- Subcontract and purchase order responsibilities include:
- Review all subcontract agreements for accuracy and compliance
- Manage the subcontract valuation/certification processes, and purchase order to AP invoice/voucher approval and payment process
- Monitoring, documentation and recording of outstanding commitments, prevailing wage / certified payroll, uninstalled materials, taxes, GSA forms, etc.
- Budget responsibilities include:
- Initial review for adherence to contract and project booking
- Recording, monitoring, and documenting variances
- Working closely with the project manager to ensure budgets are being maintained properly and cost requirements for project completion are accurate for revenue recognition standards
- Ensuring that estimate revisions are accurate, timely, and SOX compliant
- A/R responsibilities include:
- Timely billings per the contract terms and/or work completed, generally utilizing AIA Billing format with detailed schedule of values for percentage complete and retainage tracking
- Utilizing customer-mandated submission systems, including government billing sites
- Monitoring and documenting project over/under billing
- Monitoring collections and customer retainage to maximize cash flow
- The project accountant works closely with project managers, procurement, and senior leadership so proficiency in both written and verbal communication is required. Frequent communication with customers and suppliers is also required. The project accountant has the authority and the responsibility to communicate directly with senior management in the organization, including at the officer level, and must have a high degree of comfort and confidence in their ability to provide clear responses and explanations regarding all aspects of the project delivery process and how it relates to business operations
- Proficiency in technology is expected, including all Microsoft Office products and ESG’s ERP system
- The project accountant is ever mindful in the performance of their job responsibilities of adherence to company policy and generally accepted accounting principles, primarily in the area of revenue recognition
Your background includes:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience
