Cleary Gottlieb seeks a Project Attorney. The Project Attorney is a temporary, as needed, non-exempt attorney position, whose primary purpose is to assist the Firm’s partners, associates, and discovery attorneys in conducting and managing document review, analysis and production for the Firm’s litigation, antitrust, investigation, and securities enforcement practice areas. This is a hybrid position with no weekly minimum expectation or guarantee of hours to be worked.
Responsibilities
Primary Functions:
- Review documents for responsiveness to document requests, subpoenas or investigation plans.
- Assist with privilege review, redactions, and privilege logs.
- Assist with second level review and quality control (QC) review, including drafting and maintaining summaries, chronologies, and key document logs.
- Assist with Early Data Assessment and Alpha Review at beginning of a project to assess adequacy of search terms or gaps in the data set collected.
- Assist with document searches and imaging documents.
- Assist with deposition and trial preparation.
- Assist with quality control for document productions.
- Conduct research into the industry that is the subject of the document request.
- Provide document translations based on available language skills and/or industrial or technical expertise derived from past professional experience or education.
- Develop expertise in searching and review in Relativity, Concordance, and other document review platforms.
Secondary Functions:
- Assist in developing plans and procedures for document production.
- Work with, and where appropriate, direct and train paralegals and temporary attorneys.
- Assist the firm in other matters not related to document review if and when needed.
Qualifications
• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school• Must be an active member in good standing of the NY Bar• Prior document review experience using Relativity and other review platforms• Experience serving as a team leader or in another leadership capacity in a document review setting preferred• Effective oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, diplomacy, and customer service• Ability to work effectively under pressure• Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions• Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week• Flexibility to work overtime
The estimated base salary for this position is $46/hr at the time of posting. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of job-related factors, including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, and performance. This role is non-exempt meaning it is overtime pay eligible.
