The Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC) team within the Knight Cancer Institute assists in coordinating and enhancing equitable and inclusive education, training, and professional development opportunities for all career stages and across the breadth of cancer research activities at the Knight in order to develop a diverse, skilled and knowledgeable cancer research workforce.

Utilizing clearly defined expectations and effective communication skills, the CRTEC Project Coordinator works directly with education and training program leaders and administrators to support evaluation and communication of educational and career development opportunities across the Knight. This position will manage educational and recruitment events and contribute to identifying, communicating, and, where appropriate, providing administrative assistance with external funding opportunities for graduate students, post-docs, residents, and fellows. This role will also assist the primary managers and coordinators of the Knight summer pathway programs that introduce high school and undergraduate-level students from diverse backgrounds to cancer research. Working with leaders and administrators in the Knight office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and the Community Outreach and Engagement team, this position will work to enhance recruitment and retention of trainees from under-represented groups and support cancer research education that meets the needs of our community.
This position will receive direction and support from multiple executives through matrixed leader relationships but will report directly to the Associate Director of Cancer Research Training and Education (CRTEC). This position participates in formal and informal training relative to the responsibilities described herein. By fulfilling this position's responsibilities, the CRTEC Project Coordinator will also identify and actively propose revisions to educational materials, toolkits, and SOPs to ensure consistency in messaging related to processes, regulatory compliance, and research data integrity.
Duties Include but are not limited to:
Provides comprehensive project management to support strategic educational, training, and mentoring initiatives.
Collaborates with institutional partners to coordinate efforts between CRTEC and education and training partners across campus, e.g., Graduate Program Directors, Oncology Fellowship and Residency Directors, Center for Learner Diversity and Inclusion, etc.. Assists with evaluation of existing and new programs.
Develops clear communication of available education and training opportunities activities to ensure opportunities are apparent to potential participants.
Manages and contributes to educational and recruitment events, including communicating and organizing all details of events on campus, including catering and hosting responsibilities.
Provides support as needed to Knight Pathway programs managed by other administrators.
Identify and communicate educational funding opportunities and available resources (e.g., NIH F awards and other individual training grants).
May assist with administrative support of educational funding opportunities i.e. internal funding opportunities and/or institutional training grants (R25 or T32).
Collaborates with Knight office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and the Community Outreach and Engagement team, to enhance recruitment and retention of trainees from under-represented groups and support cancer research education that meets the needs of our community.
Develops and maintains detailed project plans; manages project scope, timeline, budget, resources, project/data analytics, and quality in accordance with established project management methodology and best practices.
Working closely with the Associate and Assistant Directors, compiles reports to communicate CRTEC activities and accomplishments.
Develops a project evaluation plan and processes to ensure implementation meets project goals and objectives. Utilizes data to inform critical project decision points.
Conducts and/or supports complex qualitative and quantitative analysis of project data, summarizes findings, draws appropriate conclusions, and effectively communicates results to the team.
Required Qualifications:Education & Experince:
- Four years of experience as an executive assistant, administrative analyst, researcher or administrative officer which included administrative duties, provision of technical assistance, or operations review. Two of the required years must have included administration or oversight of an on-going project or program;
- OR A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration or a closely related field may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience

- Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills: both written and verbal
- Self-starter with ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a solution-oriented approach to issues
- Detail oriented while still seeing the "big picture"
- Must possess energy and drive to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent record of time management and setting appropriate priorities
- Must be proficient with computer applications including Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint)
- Must have demonstrated excellent customer service skills both on the phone and in person
- Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships
- Master’s degree
- Three years of project management or program management experience
- Experience in an academic environment
- Experience supporting educational programs
