Job Description:
Project Estimator is responsible for deciding the projected time frame needed to complete a project and additional factors like labor needs, materials, budgets, and potential setbacks. Duties include using computer software to weigh production risks or compile reports and making presentations to project leaders outlining their suggestions for upcoming projects. Project Estimators work closely with many other professionals including contractors, vendors, accountants, and operations personnel to provide the most accurate and comprehensive financial and budget analysis for the company.
Essential Functions include but are not limited to:
- Analyze plans, specifications, proposals, and other contract documents to determine the overall project scope and project requirements.
- Review bid requirements for projects ensuring all aspects of the project are documented and accounted for.
- Researching, sourcing, negotiating, and obtaining best prices and quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Identify, manage, and maintain relationships with subcontractors, ensuring bids are completed in a timely manner, thoroughly, and accurately.
- Identify and submit required project documentation and notify other departments.
- Determining what factors of production will influence the cost of a service or product.
- Preparing material estimates and cost estimates for the product or service.
- Managing bids from vendors and contractors.
- Using bid data to prepare detailed cost analysis.
- Presenting prepared estimates to management.
- Have knowledge of the National Electric Code.
- Able to effectively estimate and track change orders.
- Participate in interviews and interview preparation for negotiated bids.
- Provide alternative solutions as needed, taking into consideration cost, schedule, maintenance, and life cycle cost implications.
- Attend or lead MVE in necessary design and coordination meetings.
- Maintain an action log for outstanding items and assign responsibility for such action items.
- Assist project team in design decisions and development of solutions.
- Assist in the development and training of the team as needed.
