The Northstar Architecture (NSA) is a multi-year strategic initiative focused on unifying and modernizing the technology stacks of three key value organizations. This project aims to streamline operations, enhance scalability, and drive innovation across the enterprise. It requires strong, traditional project management to handle complex integrations, ensure timely delivery, and maintain alignment with the organization s strategic goals.
Role Overview
The Project Manager will lead and manage all aspects of the NSA project lifecycle using traditional project management methodologies. The role includes maintaining the project playbook, adhering to PMO governance standards, managing finances, and participating in governance meetings. The Project Manager may also take on the role of Program Manager as projects evolve and become programs.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets.
Allocate resources and assign tasks to project team members.
Monitor project progress and adjust plans as necessary to meet objectives.
Ensure project milestones are achieved on time and within budget.
Stakeholder Management
Engage with key stakeholders to understand their requirements and expectations.
Communicate project status, risks, and issues regularly to stakeholders.
Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure alignment with project goals.
Risk Management
Identify, assess, and manage project risks.
Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
Proactively address issues that could impact project success.
Governance & Compliance
Maintain and update the project playbook to ensure it aligns with NSA PMO governance standards.
Prepare for and lead governance meetings, ensuring all necessary documentation and reporting are completed.
Ensure all project activities adhere to PMO guidelines and best practices.
Program Management & Multi-Project Oversight
Wear multiple hats, including acting as a Program Manager as needed.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring each is aligned with strategic objectives.
Transition projects into programs when they grow in scope and complexity, maintaining oversight at the program level.
Financial Management
Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring financial resources are allocated effectively.
Monitor and control project costs, tracking expenditures against budget forecasts.
Provide regular financial reports to stakeholders, highlighting any variances or potential issues.
Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial documentation.
Quality Assurance
Ensure that all project deliverables meet quality standards.
Coordinate with quality assurance teams to ensure thorough testing and validation.
Oversee the final project delivery and ensure it meets stakeholder expectations.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
Lead cross-functional project teams, fostering collaboration and effective communication.
Provide direction and support to team members.
Facilitate problem-solving and conflict resolution within the team.
Reporting & Documentation
Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including the project playbook.
Provide regular status reports to senior management and other stakeholders.
Track project performance and report on key metrics.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor s Degree in Business, Information Technology, or a related field.
PMP certification required or similar.
Experience
7+ years of experience in project management, specifically in traditional (waterfall) methodologies.
Proven track record of managing large-scale, complex projects.
Experience in the technology sector or related industries is preferred.
Experience in program management or managing multiple projects simultaneously is a plus.
Skills
Strong project planning and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Proficient in project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Excel).
Ability to manage budgets, timelines, and resources effectively.
