Project Mechanical Engineer
Job Summary
Marathon Petroleum is seeking an experienced, team-oriented Area Project Mechanical Engineer to join the Area Engineering Team for our Marathon Kenai Alaska Refinery. The engineer will provide technical guidance and mentoring as well as project management and mechanical design services for daily technical support of refinery operations. Projects may include new capital projects and modifications needed to properly maintain and optimize existing operating units. The successful candidate will be a self-directed and motivated individual who has a good understanding of project management processes and experience in refinery or petrochemical equipment and processes. The hours of the position 9/80 or 5/40 and support TAR once every three years. On-call may occur once or twice a year.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management and Area Team Support
+ Serve as a technical mentor in the Area Engineering group
+ Provide mechanical and troubleshooting support
+ Provide technical input and review to ensure detailed engineering meets corporate engineering and industry standards.
+ Work with project team members on project justification and economic analysis
+ Support Turnarounds
+ Generate Construction Work Packages
+ Review drawings, documents, and equipment datasheets to meet refinery needs and company specifications
+ Participate in PHAs, PSI Audits, area HAZOP reviews, incident investigations and other PSM/PSI related activities
+ Oversee management of change
+ Apply project management skills in all phases of project engineering from concept through closeout
+ Specify engineered items and equipment for refinery projects
+ Manage multiple projects and assignments in a timely, safe, and cost-effective manner
+ Coordinate work with outside engineering contractors as needed
+ Develop scope, cost estimates, and schedules for projects
+ Obtain management approval for projects
+ Interact with project team members daily to develop and execute project objectives
+ Confer with management, project stakeholders, and local/corporate SME’s
+ Support the budget process through regular interfacing and quality budget deliverables
+ Collaborate with construction during project development and implementation
+ Knowledge of applicable local, state, and national design codes and specifications
+ Technical review and approval of vendor supplied documentation for adherence to codes and standards
Education, Experience and Skills
Minimum Qualifications
+ Must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related Engineering Degree. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date).
+ Must have at least 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer in the refining, petrochemical, oil & gas or other related heavy industry.
+ Experience leading and successfully executing projects.
+ Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.
+ Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.
+ Must have a valid driver’s license. (MPC determines valid status.)
+ Must be able to obtain a TWIC Card.
+ Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.
+ Travel Requirement is 5% or less.
+ The hours of the position 9/80 or 5/40 and support TAR once every three years. On-call may occur once or twice a year.
