Department Summary:Through performance, media, and critical studies, the faculty and students of UCLA’s Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance (WACD) forge new and diverse understandings about the social, political and esthetic impacts of culture and performance. Defined by a dynamic blend of theory and practice, our faculty of renowned scholars, activists, curators, filmmakers, and choreographers are dedicated to critical cross-cultural analysis and interdisciplinary art-making. Our students position their work within broad social contexts while drawing upon multiple disciplines and artistic approaches. As a result, WACD produces world-class scholars of the body-based arts; we launch social activists, documentarians, curators, and cultural scholars; and we train the next generation of choreographic innovators.Position Summary:The Community Engagement Liaison position supports the Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance (WAC/D) faculty to develop and maintain community-driven strategies to advance student learning and long-term relationships. The incumbent performs professional planning work for the various faculty members teaching community engagement (CCE) courses. The Community Engagement Liaison (CEL) is a new position that focuses on ways to identify, cultivate, develop, and sustain relationships with members of the community who can best support and contribute to the learning outcomes of the various CCE courses. The CEL will help facilitate communication and shared goals between 1) WAC/D staff, faculty, teaching assistants, students and 2) a wide range of community stakeholders. Work requires knowledge of community engagement, committee support, planning concepts, as well as independent judgment and initiative in the performance of duties. Work is performed at UCLA (Kaufman Hall), in situ with community partners, and remotely, as necessary.
