Position: YMCA Hunger Prevention – PSE (Policy, Systems & Environment) Program Coordinator
Location: 230 McClellan Highway, East Boston
Reports to: Director of Nutrition Education, Partnerships & Warehouse Operations
Position Type: Full Time - Exempt
YMCA of Greater Boston PSE Program Coordinator
The YMCA is a lead partner for the Greater Boston Food Bank and operates a warehouse Grocery Bag Distribution Program that packages and delivers 4,500+ grocery bags weekly to more than 45 partners through the city of Boston. A new Mobile Market launched in 2023 and coordinates services for and in the city of Boston. The goal is to serve communities daily with food choice and individual selection. The YMCA of Greater Boston is also a partner to the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) and delivers SNAP-Education/ Nutritional Education to all distribution Centers in the city of Boston, partners with the Massachusetts Alliance of Ys and works directly with JSI and independent consultant to measure the impact of all Distribution Center Operations and Activities. Annually pantry meals will deliver more than 3 million meals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support at Mobile Market Food Truck
- o Set up nutrition table and SWAP materials and other education initiates at sites
- o Create activities to help participants understand SWAP at Mobile Market Food Truck sites
- o Support SNAP-Ed Team with SNAP-Ed nutrition lessons and cooking demonstrations at sites
- o Create welcoming environment at sites and ensure crowd control and safe flow of line
- o Provide indirect nutrition education at sites through recipe card distribution, SWAP activities, or other activities
- o Train volunteers at sites to provide a nutrition component alongside each MMFT
- Assist leading community engagement activities at MMFT sites
- o Attend weekly team meetings
- · Assist with Alliance work
- o Work with Director of SNAP-Education to support initiatives with Alliance and 5 Y’s
- o Onboard Y’s with PSE initiatives to incorporate SWAP and indirect activities at sites
- · Any other tasks assigned by Supervisor
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Culturally Competent and proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds.
- Ability to identify, develop and monitor partnerships that meet specific needs of families and community.
- Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Word, Exchange and Outlook; use of spreadsheet software such as Excel; use of on-line reporting systems for data entry.
- Ability to write and communicate clearly and effectively.
- Serve Safe, CPR, First Aid, all DTA required trainings & other program specific certifications required upon or after hire.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 -15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
