Archer Adolescent Unit Psych Tech
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
- The Psych Aide provides direct contact with each assigned patient to monitor responses to services & identify problem areas.
SUPERVISION: Reports directly to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Provides physical, emotional &/or cognitive patient care in an appropriate, safe manner.
- Liaison with various departments of LCMH to patient safety and quality care based on patient needs. - Diligent Training
- Utilizes effective crisis intervention techniques.
- Demonstrates ability to conduct environment and patient safety duties (i.e.- room inspections, patient search, belonging searches, monitor visitors for contraband).
- Communicates abnormal variances of physical data (vital signs, pain, etc.) to appropriate staff.
- Emotional &/or cognitive data (tearful, hallucinating, etc.) to appropriate staff.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma/GED preferred
- Sufficient experience in working with mentally ill persons, addicted persons or in providing personal care services.
- Crisis Response Training, CPR.
- Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
- Requires emotional stability and resilience.
- Must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight.
- Exhibits organizational and leadership ability.
- Shows ability to gain & maintain support and respect of co-workers.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping, and lifting.
- The work environment may be physically confining.
- Visual acuity is required for a variety of specific activities.
- Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing devices if duties require listening with a stethoscope to discern breath sounds, heart sounds, and bowel sounds.
- Ability to do shift work as required.
