About the Job
The Psychiatric Assistant at The Heritage Community plays a critical role in supporting psychiatric prescribers in delivering top-quality mental health care. Under the direct supervision of the psychiatric prescriber, the assistant performs a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing patients' well-being and ensuring smooth coordination of care.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Patient Care and Data Collection
- Collect and record patients' vital signs as directed by the psychiatric prescriber.
- Gather and document additional patient data, as requested by the prescriber.
- Collect, label, and process biological samples (blood, urine, saliva), ensuring they are sent to the appropriate lab for analysis.
- Follow up with labs or other healthcare providers to obtain test results and ensure coordinated care.
Prescription and Healthcare Coordination
- Assist in managing prescriptions and other healthcare interventions as instructed by the psychiatric prescriber.
- Help coordinate psychiatric appointments and other healthcare visits for patients, ensuring timely scheduling and communication.
Administrative and Documentation Support
- Assist with scribing, note-taking, and maintaining thorough documentation during patient visits.
- Support the psychiatric prescriber in communicating with patients, families, staff, and other stakeholders via phone, email, or other communication methods.
Patient Supervision and Transport
- Transport or supervise patients in accordance with The Heritage Community's supervision policies, ensuring their safety and compliance with care protocols.
PHYSCIAL AND EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical Capabilities
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Capacity to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

- Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in high-stress situations.
- Demonstrated capacity to work with individuals experiencing emotional distress or behavioral challenges.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Medical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare procedures.
- Familiarity with healthcare protocols, including patient care and safety standards.

QUALIFICATIONS
Educational Background
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Professional Experience
- Previous experience working in a healthcare setting is preferred but not required.
Certifications
- Current CPR certification is required
- CPI Nonviolent Intervention is required
