About the Facility – Salinas Valley State Prison
This facility provides both outpatient and inpatient mental health services for patients with a serious mental disorder. The licensed Psychiatric Inpatient Program at this facility is designed to provide more intensive treatment for patients who cannot function adequately or stabilize in an outpatient program.
The mission of Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP) is to provide long-term housing and services for minimum and maximum custody male inmates. In doing so SVSP offers educational, religious and self-help programming in the ongoing effort to help alleviate adverse behavior and reduce recidivism within the prison system. SVSP employees take pride in their continual efforts to ensure the delivery of services to the inmate population and in their primary mission of ensuring public safety and trust.

Psych Tech - RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Psych Tech will provide basic behavioral and psychiatric care to mentally or developmentally disabled patients/youth.
- Conduct daily monitoring and clinical rounds for patients with mental illness symptoms.
- Administers medications, treatments, and injections, and performs other basic nursing tasks under RN or MD supervision.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to create and implement treatment plans.
- Assist in developing and leading group or individual therapy sessions.
- Work with custody personnel to manage patients' care.
- Monitor and report any changes in the physical or mental condition of patients.
- Coordinate clinical appointments and ensure patients are present.
- Provide first aid/CPR when necessary.
- Accurately document all care and activities in compliance with CDCR/CCHCS requirements.
- Provide mental health education and develop resources for mentally ill or sex offender inmates.
- Assist patients in applying for benefits and accessing community programs.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new treatment or rehabilitation programs.
- Must have one year experience within the last three years performing services similar in scope to those defined herein in a public or private institution. Internship does not count toward the required experience.
- Possess and maintain a current and valid license in the state of California as a Psychiatric Tech.
