Psychological Counselor - ( STA014238 ) Organization: H0220 Counseling & Psychologic SvcsDescriptionProvides mental health services to the campus community, including one or more of the following services: individual, couples and group counseling and therapy; crisis intervention; consultation and outreach services.
General responsibilities: Provide multi-culturally competent individual, couples, and group services within a short-term therapy framework; facilitate workshops on coping skills for anxiety and depression; adhere to stepped care principles in assessing a student’s fit for services; perform crisis intervention and assessment, engage in consultation and outreach; engage with trainees via co-therapy and training seminars; and perform additional duties as assigned by the Director. About CAPS: The University of Houston’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is a vital department within the Health and Well-Being (HWB) portfolio. We work closely with our HWB partners, which include the Student Health Center; Campus Recreation; UH Wellness; Justin Dart, Jr. Student Accessibility Center; and Cougars in Recovery. Together, we are committed to fostering a culture of care that promotes the success of our students, faculty, and staff. CAPS is accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services and also offers an APA accredited internship in Health Service Psychology. We have a multidisciplinary team consisting of licensed psychologists, doctoral and masters level mental health professionals, and advanced graduate trainees in counseling, clinical, and school psychology. Within our Stepped Care model, our services include triage, essential skills workshops, single session therapy, group counseling, short-term couples and individual counseling. We also offer a large number of resources and outreach to include “Let’s Talk”, QPR, and on demand trainings on a variety of mental health topics. EEO/AA QualificationsMasters and 1 year experience Minimum qualifications: A Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work. Licensure is required at time of interview. We welcome applicants who do not have prior counseling center experience provided candidates clearly articulate how their experience in other settings can be translated to a counseling center/higher education setting. The successful candidate will have strong attention and motivation to multicultural competence, demonstrated by awareness of their areas for multicultural growth, an openness to working with a wide range of diverse clients, and the pursuit of continued education. Desired Qualifications: Candidates who are three plus years post-licensure and have experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas: diverse range of client presenting concerns and diversity variables, short-term/brief therapy, crisis intervention, and outreach programming.
