HJF is seeking a Psychologist II to function as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide neuropsychological and other psychological evaluations ranging from screening evaluations, limited focal evaluations and complete neuropsychological batteries for Veterans enrolled in the DC War Related Injury and Illness Study Center (WRIISC) program. Performs duties as a practitioner and consultant in psychiatry with emphasis on problems of all levels of complexity.

This position will be in support of WRIISC. The DC WRIISC is located at the DCVAMC and many research opportunities exist. The incumbent will be expected to participate and generate relevant research projects,

• Clinical Responsibilities (55%)
  
  • Demonstrate knowledge in developing scientific principles or theories concerning the relationship of behavior to factors of environment, experience or physiology; or to seek and develop practical application of research findings.
  • Demonstrate skill in furnishing professional advice, opinion or assistance to solutions of problems, on the feasibility and evaluation of projects, programs, research plans, data or techniques in connection with services, research, training and administration.
  • Demonstrate the ability to carry out education and training in psychological principles, theories, methods and techniques.
  • Directs Psychology Post-Doctoral Fellows, Interns and Externs related to clinical psychological and neuropsychological issues.
• Research (40%)
  • Initiate and conduct research related to post deployment health and the overall WRIISC mission. This could include but is not limited to applied clinical, biomedical, as well program development, program effectiveness, and epidemiologic investigations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of developing scientific principles or theories concerning brain-behavior relationships and possible interactions with changes in the internal and external environment.
  • Proactively support, collaborate and mentor trainees in publishing and presenting research findings in scientific, peer-reviewed journals, invited book chapters, published letters to editor, and local and/or national professional society-organizational meetings.
  • Maintain knowledge of current state of the emerging neuropsychological research literature and clinical technology (e.g., teleneuropsychology) and apply this information to WRIISC for consideration of inclusion in future clinical services and research studies to assist WRIISC in supporting SecVA priority: Modernize Systems.
  • Proactively explore and develop research involving neuropsychological data (e.g., exploration of neurocognitive profiles related to specific populations including Gulf War Veterans and EOD technicians).
  • Collaborate closely with the WRIISC-DC Research Team to ensure accurate interpretation and appreciation of psychological and cognitive variables, and assist professional response to assessment and response to suicide risk.
  • Support WRIISC as needed to assist HOME in their research/project/publication priorities.
• Administrative responsibilities (5%)
  • Adhere to operational policies and procedures necessary for WRIISC clinical and research.
  • Comply with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients.
  • Comply with all CPRS documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and proper patient check out procedures (e.g., entering diagnostic and procedure codes).
  • Attend and participate in all required WRIISC administrative and informational.

Supervisory Responsibilities 

• Direct Supervisor: Direct authority to make decisions on the following: conduct employee performance evaluations and directs work activities.

Education and Experience

• Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology with major area of study in Neuropsychology and/or Cognitive Rehabilitation required.
• Minimum of 3+ years of experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Experience in evaluation and treatment of cognitive, psychological and neuropsychological issues. 
• Experience in applying psychological principles, theories, methods and techniques in the delivery of professional services for patients within the Medical Center.
• Well organize and detail oriented. 
• Familiarity with the military population. 
• Familiarity working with VA medical record systems (e.g.,CPRS And JLV)
• Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust and PIV card. 

Physical Capabilities

• Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment

• This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
