Position Summary
Operating from a interdisciplinary and family-centered perspective, and in conjunction with psycho-educational nursing interventions, the Clinical Psychologist will provide consultative services, psychological guidance and treatment interventions for parents, physicians and hospital personnel dealing with complex emotions. The Clinical Psychologist will provide input and guidance in creating the infrastructure including policies and procedures for the future development of a hospital-wide pediatric psychology program.
Essential Job Outcomes & Functions
- Provides assessment, support and direct intervention to parents and families, focusing on up-to-date stress management and coping interventions.
- Participates as an active, regular member in multidisciplinary team meetings, care conferences and program development.
- Develops and employs quality and process improvement techniques based on evidence-based practice to enhance family understanding of medical conditions and maximize treatment adherence.
- Makes appropriate referrals to outpatient services and other resources for continuation of care as needed.
- Assures a safe and smooth transition of patient/family psychosocial care within the hospital, and from the hospital to the community and regional resources.
- Participates in Careline directed activities, including the development and monitoring of quality indicators, community outreach activities (support groups, presentations, etc.)
- Provides institutional support and intervention strategies for clinical staff that enhance a healthy work-life balance and decrease caregiver stress.
- Provides psychological consultation, education and training to team members related to patient care, behavior management, and staff support including facilitation of debriefment meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Ph.D or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA approved program and APA approved internship. California State License as a licensed clinical psychologist. Postdoctoral experience working with pediatric population and/or their families in outpatient and medical setting required.
Qualifications/Work Experience
Experience in pediatric clinical psychology is required along with competency in the following areas: 1) Individual, family and group psychological evaluations and treatment; 2) nursing, medical and behavioral science staff consultations; 3) experience with psychological and neuropsychological testing; 4) behavioral science research experience.
