Clinical Psychologist, Rehabilitation
The rehabilitation psychologists provide psychological evaluation, individual/ family/ group therapy, and consultation for health behavior assessment and intervention. The psychologists collaborate with university and academic programs to provide support for specialty clinics.
We currently have an opening for a Spinal cord injury (SCI) Rehabilitation Psychologist. This provider will serve as the mental health provider for the Outpatient Spinal Cord Program at Frazier Rehabs Center for Advanced Neurorehab. Our Spinal Cord Program is one of the nations leading rehabilitation programs providing comprehensive outpatient rehab services for pediatrics through geriatrics who are overcoming a spinal cord injury or disease. There also may be potential to provide services to SCI patients during their inpatient acute rehabilitation stay.
An integral component of this role is collaborating with the interdisciplinary rehab team, including physicians and residents, physical/ occupational/ speech/ pulmonary/ recreational therapists, dieticians, nurses, patients and families, and community resources. The psychologists are highly regarded by the physicians and treatment team at Frazier.
Job Requirements:
Education:
- PhD or PsyD from an APA approved program in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology, including an APA approved clinical internship required
Consideration will be given for a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology who is licensed as a Psychological Practitioner in KY.
Experience:
- Experience in a hospital setting treating patients with chronic health and neurological problems, preferred
- Two years full time experience which may include internship, fellowship, and/or post-doctoral position
Licensure:
- License or license-eligible in Kentucky
- Health Service Provider designation in Kentucky
Certification:
- Board eligibility for certification in Rehabilitation or Health Psychology, preferred
Essential Functions:
- Provide timely psychological evaluation/assessment of any patient using evidence-based techniques and measures.
- Integrate assessment findings into the unique plan of care in the rehabilitation setting and effectively communicate impressions and recommendations to the treatment team and referring provider.
- The plan of care should outline reasonable, specific goals that are relevant to the patients rehabilitation needs and overall factors impacting participation in rehabilitation and health behavior change.
- Provide guidance and team leadership for areas of unique expertise (e.g., suicide, abuse, decision-making capacity, guardianship).
- Documentation of evaluation and assessment should be timely, accurate, and comprehensive.
- Provide routine psychological treatment to any patient using evidence-based techniques.
- Intervention may consist of individual, group, or family therapy; education of patient, family, and/or treatment team; development of behavior modification strategies; and facilitation of team meetings.
- Intervention will be tailored to the individual patients preferences and needs and the referring providers requests, as appropriate based on patients engagement and goals.
- Establishment and maintenance of therapeutic rapport is critical to the outcome of ongoing intervention.
- Specific evidence-based interventions appropriate to diagnosis and goals should be employed (e.g., cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, etc.).
- Documentation of intervention should be timely, accurate, and comprehensive.
- Communicate effectively and consult with the rehabilitation team, patient/family, and community resources to nurture optimal benefit to the patient and family from the rehab program.
- Contribute to the smooth and successful resolution of patient concerns and issues through appropriate escalation and communication of concerns, issues, or safety needs.
- Serve as resource and liaison related to community resources promoting well-being and coping, as well as outpatient mental health care resources.
- Demonstrates respect for the professional contributions of other disciplines on a consistent basis as reflected by staff feedback and usual lack of complaints.
- Demonstrate commitment to professional growth opportunities and competence.
- Independently maintain required institutional training.
- Independently maintain necessary continuing education, minimally to maintain licensure and capacity to supervise pre-doctoral students and post-doctoral psychologists, to facilitate care delivery in treatment setting.
- Engage in clinical training/student supervision, training/in-servicing opportunities for staff, professional organization activities, and/or research opportunities and conferences that promote the profession and organization.
- Ensure competency with relevant populations (e.g., pediatric-geriatric) and knowledge of best practices for relevant populations (e.g., functional symptoms).
- Demonstrate professional commitment toward cultural competence.
